Yikes! Those prices sound like a thriving black market will take off.

When I was 10 or so in the early 70s, my mom would give me 35 cents, and I'd ride my bike
to the local gas station and get her a pack of Winstons from the cigarette vending machine.
People can get smokes that do not come from the major tobacco companies, I guess they are made by the Indigenous
people, and they do sell for a lot less, although you are supposed to be Indigenous to be able to buy them... one of
my neighbors who smokes told me they are sold "under the counter" at the corner shop for around six bucks a pack.

I’m so old now that I’m not pondering on quitting. It’ll just have to be just another bad habit lol.
If you saw the guy that was with me in intensive care who smoked 3 packs a day you wouldnt keep smoking....i saved his life twice Please try your best to quit.

Yes, sir... and every cigarette filter has a message on it:

Individual cigarettes in Canada now have health warnings printed on them,
in addition to the anti-smoking labelling already on cigarette packages.

“Poison in every puff”
“Cigarettes cause cancer”
“Tobacco smoke harms children”
“Cigarettes damage your organs”
“Cigarettes cause impotence”
“Cigarettes cause leukemia”

Tobacco use remains one of Canada’s most significant public health problems, and is the country’s leading
preventable cause of disease and premature death, former health minister Jean-Yves Duclos said in a May 31
statement announcing the new warning labels. We're the first country in the world with such a policy.

Are organic loose leaf in bags of tobacco available? It's not perfect, but has far less toxins that companies spray on cigs to make them more addictive. People report getting off them altogether when switching to organic. If you roll your own, perhaps the tax will be less. It sounds like Justin Trudeau is rolling in dough$.

I am not sure... such things probably are available, but it is doubtful it is really less expensive. Taxes taxes taxes!

Here in the states you have to look hard for it. I finally found one grocery store as a source for family and clients. If I were you, I would call around to all the stores that aren't convenience stores, but sell cigarettes. There might even be a tobacco shop around that carries organic

One of my hospital roommates for a short time was someone whom I heard say, he did not need oxygen the
last trip he made to the bathroom. I shall assume his COPD was at the point that any exertion at all was too
much for his body to efficiently supply oxygen for due to the advanced stage of his condition, and I also
overheard him asking about MAID, which is medical assistance in dying. And I always remember the older
couple who lived below me in a house where they had the whole ground floor, and I had half of the upstairs
in what was then called a bachelor apartment (shared bathroom with person in other half of second floor).
They had terrible breathing problems (emphysema?) and coughs but both smoked almost constantly.

I am curious to know how you saved that man's life... twice! Care to share that story?

I just realized that I’m one of the ancient people still smoking cigarettes.

Now, I am not going to break that habit, but I have a feeling that I may be the only one here doing it.

Or am I?
susanna, quit the bad habit now! you will feel so much better. & you'll be a happier woman. & when you quit, you're going to tell yourself you should have quit decades ago!

Well, that is certainly less than I used to smoke when I was a pack-a-day.

I managed to cut down a few times over the years to three to five cigs a day...

And I do also certainly hope you never experience the debilitating side effects some do.

I have COPD as a result of smoking primarily I assume, although I had other incidents in life that severely affected my lungs as well, such as a smoke inhalation incident that put me in the hospital unconscious for half a day after which I lost my voice for a month, and another time when I lived above an abandoned store, I awoke one morning and the furnace had, um, I don't know, exploded or something? There was fine black soot all over everything and I had breathed it in and my white footed tabby cat was grey... I suppose it is a wonder that did not kill me![/ MAGENTA, LISTEN TO THIS: back in about 1995, i was out plowing snow on a Sunday & when i came home, there was black soot all over my apartment! the oil furnace decided to explode. a state certified cleaning service had to come in by law & super clean my whole apartment. it took them 3 days. the soot got into everything, even in the cabinets. BUT HERE IS THE REAL INTERESTING ISSUE: MY BIBLE DID NOT HAVE ANY SOOT ON IT OR IN IT!!!!!!!!!!! TRUE STORY!!!!!! A MIRACLE!!!!! PRAISE THE LORD ENDLESSLY!!!!!!!!

That does sound pretty amazing, Karlon!!!

My furnace thingy was back in the mid-to-late seventies... just before I came out west, so pre 1977.

And the smoke inhalation incident was in the late seventies, possibly very early eighties...

I found this old photo of me which was taken in my aforementioned downstairs' neighbour's ground floor apartment...

I was in hershey medical center after having my legs operated on and was sharing the room with the guy and he was so messed up from smoking he couldnt speak. Any way twice he ended up rattling the bed rails and i looked over and he was so bad he couldnt press the call button so immediately i hit mine and told them what was going on. I will never forget that experience and i wish it on no one so when i get the chance i speak about my experience. They came in the room each time and had to pound on his back and put him on oxygen. They called me his guardian angel.

This is what you can expect to see as one of many images displayed on a pack of Canadian cigarettes:

Oh my goodness. This picture will give me nightmares.

When I was in my early teens, a relative who was a heavy smoker had to have part of his lung removed -- and I think they had to break his ribs to get to it. (I could be wrong, I only overheard my parents talking about it and I was too scared to ask.)

This was enough to horrify me enough to never want to try smoking. I can attach to something very quickly and I was sure if I ever even tried one puff, I'd probably be hooked.

It makes me worry (and pray a lot!) for my smoking friends though, as they are starting to have complications.

I have no doubt God specifically chose you as his roommate!

God bless you for coming to this man's rescue. ❤️

I sit outside the local convenience store a lot and see people smoking and pray for them in my car. More and more i realized what a privilege prayer is and knowing it has great effect. (The prayer of a righteous man availith much.)
