I wonder if Jesus said do this and do that to be a member of the church.

Let's take baptism as per above (but there is more).
If you believe that you can only be saved if you were baptised in the name of Jesus only then you could be a member of the church, along with speaking in tongues.
If not you can't be a member.

If neither of the above is not applicable to you or me then we would not be allowed to be a member.

Some denominations don't allow membership unless you have been baptised in the name of the Father/Son/Holy/Spirit.

Very sad.
Please ignore my last sentence.
Just to clarify.
If you haven't been baptized at all then you cannot become a member.

So the thief on the cross isn’t a member? Or possibly John the Baptist? No death bed conversions?
Never said that.
I was staring what I have heard and seen and experienced.

I have been told I was not saved because I did not speak in tongues.

Did you read my previous post to your post above?

I had to clarify baptism regardless of the mode.

Ohh gotcha. My apologies i think I read it wrong. I think all believers should be baptized but if the Spirit is not calling them to do so then they are just getting wet for no reason. Then the person feels like they didn’t do something right. A lot of the doctrines out there end up pressuring someone to do something they’re not ready for or it pushes them away.

Should the local church preach the gospel to its congregation? The gospel of Jesus Christ is how he died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. Shouldn't those in the local assembly already have this checked off? Isn't church about equipping the saints through the preaching of the word to walk as children of light? When people hear the same message over and over, they do not mature in their faith but remain babes in Christ.

Thoughts??

This could be me ooh yes yes its me not you (so she said).

Well it has been since Christ rose went up (preaching the good news).. that is you guessed shouting time PRAISE GOD GLORY TO JESUS. Since I have not been to over 300 thousand Churches in the US the ones I have been all preach the good news the Gospel. Then how many of those have our reaches? Go into the city preach and help the homeless? Yeah what are some of focusing on? I've shared this but preacher prays about another preacher we all know and asked the lord why have you not (his words) judged this man with fire and brimstone? He said "oh but do you know all the good they do for me". what good are these Churches doing? Allot for Christ amen more them me.

No neee to apologise.
Yes it was a bit confusing.

Based on my experience of baptising people is not necessarily not wanting to be baptised.

The issue is that they are pressed to give some great testimony and speak before loads of people.

Some have felt that they need to be good not sin do good works to be baptised.

And sadly that can be the result of preaching in the church.

It's a case of don't do this or that.

Some are not comfortable before loads of people and that's ok.
Some are and that's ok.

I have baptised people after telling them that you don't have to give big speach.
The relief released them and all they said was "I want to be baptized because I believe in Jesus and what he has done for me"

I cannot imagine in the early church that people had to give a big testimony.

In Gods timing for everything.

That's heretical teaching, so no Christian should want to be part of that church.

I was once refused membership in a baptist church because I wasn't baptized in a baptist church.

John 13:31-35

The New Commandment
31 So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.
32 If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.
33 Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you.
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Agree 100%. I’m not real big on the having to schedule it and wait til Sunday morning either. I was baptized in a tub in someone’s yard in the middle of nowhere. I don’t remember Phillip telling the Ethiopian he had to wait til Sunday services. If someone is ready to be baptized at 2am on a Tuesday then find a swimming pool. And just a tip most hotels will let you use their pools for baptisms whether you’re staying there or not. The baptism is not about the audience, it’s about that person and Christ.

I agree.
It's very sad isn't it.
When I was told I wasn't saved because I didnt speak in tongues I carried that for 30 years.

Very sad.
Imread your posts
God bless you.

Amen and amen.
Totally agree.

We as belivers are the church.

The church and Christians should be and walk the gospel.
No need preach it, be it, walk it and people will see it and people will want to know more.

Jesus did that.

I get what you are saying and our conversation among the lost goes a long way, but salvation comes through preaching the gospel. The preaching of the cross is where the power is unto salvation. Christians living as lights need to open our mouth and share the gospel.

I believe the biblical method of sharing the gospel was demonstrated by Paul. Believers should share the gospel in public and house to house (privately).

Acts 20:
20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,
21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Really! So there're restrictions?

The whole service should be an invitation to Christ, from the call to worship to the benediction. Whether instruction is the primary goal or evangelism, Christ and Him crucified should be central to the message.
