Should i move to LA ?

I've been thinking about moving to California (preferably Los Angeles County) for some time i'm wondering what y'all think about that area ? My mom thinks LA is evil and although i do understand what she means (Hollywood is not exactly a christian place), i never really considered or thought Los Angeles was an evil place. I'm also considering (and leaning more to) San Diego County as its cheaper and IMO more family friendly/"christian-like" (NO dark Hollywood), with less traffic, less drama, more laid back,etc. So what do y'all think ? Should i move to LA (SD is fine too) ? Or should i listen to my mom and stay out of Hollywood land or even the west coast in general ?

Take it from someone who grew up in LA County (and left there 23 years ago) it ain't what it seems. Sure, for a younger man from a smaller town (I cheated and looked up your IP info) the idea of living in LA can seem glamorous but in reality tons of small town transplants end up living on the streets because they can't afford housing. Southern CA in general has one of the highest costs of living (compared to wages) in the nation. Just for example, 25 years ago my 2 bed, 2 bath apartment (800 square foot) cost me $750 per month; that same apartment (I looked it up) now costs $2,200 per month.

Honestly i know the days of sub $1000 rent is long gone (unless God says otherwise), but i've always wanted to live there since i was a kid. I don't really care about Hollywood or being rich and famous, i just want to live somewhere beautiful. And i found California to the most beautiful state in this country. So I'm willing to pay $1500 and up just to live somewhere in California (preferably the coast). The problem is that my mom seems to think LA is evil and I'm wondering if she's right. If so then i'll go with San Diego, Santa Barbara, or maybe even Sacramento, otherwise I'm probably just gonna stay in South Carolina.

I lived in CA, between LA and San Diego counties, for 10 years. And the expense is no joke. Bear in mind it's not just rent that's expensive. Everything is. When I lived out there is when the gas prices spike happened and people were paying $5 a gallon in my area, and LA was worse.

When I was younger I, too, dreamt of moving to CA. But it didn't take long of being there to realize it wasn't as great as I anticipated.
Yes, the weather can be nice, but it also gets quite dry and hot in the summer.
And earthquakes seem to always be in the back of your mind. And it's pretty clear that "The Big One" could strike at any time. That can stick in your mind as well.

The traffic in LA is not exaggerated. It's insane there. And I went into SD a few times and it had quite a bit of traffic as well.
Neither county is safe. They're both known for high levels of crime.

Not to mention CA is super liberal. Which means the usual pro gay, anti police, anti white, CRT mess is pretty dominant right now.

I left CA a little over 10 years ago and have zero interest in ever going back. Especially not in this day and age.

It's your choice whether to go or not, but keep your expectations low as you clearly are expecting too much.

I'm SoCal resident for a long time and I do like the vibe here. While it leans left there are many Conservatives here and in fact, that are recalling our Dem Gov. His crime in the eyes of some is restricting Churches during covid prohibiting gathering/worship events for a while.
Many think of CA as super lib but it's the home of TBN, the world-wide Christian Broadcasting network w/conservative values, and Harvest Christian Fellowship (my Church) which brings in usually 300+ salvations ea wk through repeated broadcasts late Sat and Sunday every 2 hrs.
LA, OC and SD are more expensive but surrounding areas are more affordable. The main problem facing the West Coast is the fires. They are a habit now every year, wiping out many vineyards, homes, business' and other farmland. With a drought in progress and very little rain each year we may be looking at water limits again soon.
I hope I didn't overload your head, lol, but a lot does go on here.

California coast line is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I have been to the San Francisco area a few times, and San Diego once (prefer San Diego). It really depends on why you want to go there. If you want to go for easy access to beautiful beaches/coast line, not too many places can beat that. Same with weather. If you don't like the area, you can always move. Just realize that depending on your religious and political views, you may not have too many friends. And, a lot of people are fine with that.

California is heading for real problems soon...they have had them before but this time it's worse.

Because of the realization of telecommunications and etc...the flight of reasonable jobs is extreme and ongoing...iow companies are leaving for greener pastures.
However,
The homeless shanty towns are growing and on many sidewalks...it's disgusting.

You will be a fish out of water there...

If you want excitement try something smaller and closer to home.

California resident here (LA), 30+ years.
The state's been injected with illegal immigration from the south and you can see the adverse effect over the years.
Homeless poulation has been increasing/spreading now into suburban/residential area as well.
It's going down slowly for sure, perhaps beyond the point of return unless something dramtic/substantial takes place.
Just look up how many people moved out of California last year and that should give you an idea.

What about San Diego ? I've heard that its been pretty good over there.

The homeless is one of my issues.....No disrespect, but they're destroying cities over there in Cali.

Where the homeless are a major consideration....they aren't the only one.
The one issue with California is the attitudes and the way they go about their own Governance. It's essentially mob rule which has caused the homeless situation with the mild weather there. But mob rule has permeated into everyday life for the residents there...and the school system is different. They started crossing lines from education into parenting your children over 50 years ago. It's become untenable for many households that understand the difference in boundaries.

At age 3 and up the education system there begins their sex education that reflects the modern LGBTQ lifestyles as an idolized lifestyle.

And meanwhile you are having to teach your children to not look at the man defecating on the sidewalk in full view of everyone but meanwhile navigate around the other feces and drug paraphernalia about on a routine walk to school.
There are other things too that this entails as well as they also have strong opinions on politics that they feel the need to teach your children as well as their moral standards instead of yours.

As a result of living in CA as an adult you may be able to ignore most of this and might even find a nice girl to marry...which begins to be problematic with life there.

With the job situation and private schools....
It's not exactly a great place to live...
