Thanks for bringing up the question of hobbies. In my younger years I enjoyed sewing. I made my wedding dress and the matron-of-honor's dress, made my mother's wedding dress when she remarried, made both she and I coats. Back then we all had relatively simple tastes and I had a lot more time. I have fun memories of sewing for the children, including a very impromptu Native American dress for my daughter for something in public school back in the days when it was still OK to refer to pilgrims and Indians around this time of year. I recently gave it to her for her daughter to have fun with it. I guess that leads to the tacit admission of another hobby: hoarding memories.

People are a big hobby of mine. I'm in a circle of people growing every larger who check on each other often, mostly because we're in a group of people who keep jumping off and we never know when that last check-in will happen. It's a different perspective than when we were younger and people were simply entertaining: now people of all ages are simply precious. Time is limited.

When I'm not working (which I'll do until I retire, I suppose) or taking a Sabbath day, you might find me baking bread, canning up something, gardening, stacking firewood, plumbing, doing electrical wiring, writing, or similar innately feminine hobbies. This list might reduce if the manhunt is successful. :)

Bible reading, bike riding, playing the drums, listening to Christian music, scenic driving, attending estate sales, dealing with antiques, miscellaneous merchandise & silver & gold coins, walking, swimming, sightseeing, antique shopping, visiting museums, gourmet dining on dinners or breakfast, reading other literature, playing chess & scrabble, listening to comedians, watching old movies, shows, boxing & baseball, vacationing in the Caribbean & chatting with friends in the antique business.

I would have loved to have been around you when I was growing up.

I learned to sew long before the days of YouTube, and was limited in what I could learn because I don't learn from books very well, and needed someone to show me. I had a relative who sewed, but always the same things, and never wanted to expand beyond polyester polo shirts and gabardine slacks. Now, there's nothing wrong with those of course, but this person wasn't interested in venturing past those two specialties and couldn't show me anything else.

It sounds like you have wonderful talents, and I would have been happy to learn from you.

Your look-after-each-other group sounds amazing -- some of my friends here have talked about trying to have that someday as we all get older, but we all live across the country from each other.

The man you find is going to appreciate how versatile you are at taking care of house and home!! :)

Yeah yeah yeah yeah! Barbecued raccoon, squirrel and dumplings, rabbit gumbo...

Man I miss the men's wild meat supper our church used to have.

Haven't brought myself to eat a raccoon lol. Sometimes I have to clear them out of barns. In the zombie apocalypse I might consider it haha those things be nasty.

No no noooooo! Ole coon got so much fat on him, he barbecues up nice and soft. One year I came so close to eating myself sick on barbecued raccoon.

Not even a bit. I don't know who made it that year, but it was gooooooood!

As someone who has to take care of problem populations of raccoons and has 4 years experience behind night vision scopes. I can without a doubt tell you raccoons are the nastiest things on earth. The thought of munching on those cannibalistic terd munching trash pandas give me the heebs. Now one that is maybe out it the wilderness living like a wild animal should. Might be a differnt story.

I'm down in Southwest tennessee. Around here there are people who raise dogs specifically for coon hunting and even have coon hunt tournaments. if their dog wins a tournament they can really cash in on stud fees from that dog.

Personally I think they are slightly crazy and take varmint hunting way too far. But they do take down some pretty tasty coons.

But yeah, it would be a different story if I lived somewhere else.

What do you say about coons sounds like what I say about catfish. Southwest Tennessee is the so-called catfish capital of the world. Everybody eats catfish around here. You can't get any fish in a restaurant except catfish or maybe salmon. But catfish are bottom feeders, the cockroaches of the river. I would give a lot for a nice trout filet.

Here i will only eat a channel cat 15-20 inches long from a colder river. Catfish and carp are the raccoons of the river. How someone could pull up a 40 pound catfish and think it would be tasty from the tennessee river is beyond me. Steelhead aka lake run rainbows best tasting fish besides blugills and northern pike.

Does anyone like carp? I'm personally very partial to catfish. Putting the catfish in a stock tank for a few days is best before cleaning them. It makes a difference.
My grandmother had one burp of a copperhead in her stock tank.

I ate a giant grass carp once, I thought it was quite tasty. The neighbors bought a batch to control vegetation in the pond, one got injured in a storm and we didn't want him to go to waste. I don't get why carp isn't a well- known delicacy, honestly. I like catfish too.

i don't know, never tried it. but here's my 1 & only carp story: my dad took us fishing quite a bit when we were young. this particular time, i was 10. so i'm trying to reel in a huge fish & was having trouble. i remember saying, "dad, dad, help"! it took us a half hour to reel in a 3' long carp!!! a black guy was nearby & asked my father if he could have it so my dad gave it to him.

My life very predictable. church-job-job-school-house-church. So lately I have been thinking to start something. I am thinking of sports but I don't know if I should go for Golf or Tennis.
I need advice on this, from anyone who does sports

If you’re looking to relax, golf. Golf is still challenging while being relaxing. Stretch a lot (Thoracic twists) for better range of motion.

If you want a workout, tennis. I’d recommend doing squats 3-4 times a week to strengthen those knees. Running on a treadmill or at the park if you have one nearby to build stamina. Unless you find a casual partner who just hits the ball back and forth, then you won’t need to worry about those things.

Sorry if I sound like a personal trainer lol.

Singing I think is the longest hobby I ever had. I never thought my voice was good enough for solo work but I loved to do anything with harmony. God gave me a natural ability of it from being a little kid I just did it. I can remember going into a new group and they would ask me which part did I sing and I would say what do you need?

Sang in many church groups and in more churches than I could ever remember I loved singing with a group but try and get me up there by myself and forget about it. Sang for the soldiers at Ft. Knox, sang on the radio and all of this was with a group.

The last group I sang with were all ladies called Adoration and our leader's name was Kathy we had so much fun together. She ended up having cancer and passed away and I wrote a song for her before she died and I still miss her so much to this day and wish I could sing with her again.

When I was younger I could hit some really high notes way up in the rafters, but being older voice cracks if I even attempt those notes, but I have so many fond memories of singing with so many different people at so many different places.

I went to church school for most of my education but Kindergarten and 7th grade. I joined the public school choir and we entered a state competition and we won blue ribbons we could pin on our clothes.

Only singing I do now is in the car with the radio not often or in the house when a song I like comes on the TV/computer.

I agree about the carp. I remember many years ago trying a carp patty and it was pretty good. Have you ever heard of a Mud fish or Bowfin? We used to catch them a lot in the lakes when I was younger and they weren't too bad but a bony fish.
