Hi everyone, just new to this, what a wonderful forum, a blessing no doubt to many who need it especially. As a believer who was amazingly saved in 2004 from a very sinful & selfish life, I am so grateful to God & his son who paid our sin debt in full for us!
Now as one who hopes & prays that I’m now growing, even a little bit more each day to be more Christlike, this topic has been bothering me of late. Having been brought up in what might be classed as an old fashioned Christian upbringing, where there was no tv on Sunday, etc & my dear parents did really try & were lovely Christian parents to me. Now as a parent myself, I am struggling re this allowing homework to be done on a Sunday, are we not then governed anymore by the Ten Commandments, via the New Testament?, is that what grace is? Sorry I’m no scholar but ultimately don’t want to wilfully do something wrong in Gods eyes. I’m hoping/aiming to try to get the homework’s done before Sunday in future, although my wife seems to be settled that it’s ok, as long as we generally rest, as in advisory & not law, law, law. I’m just a bit confused as to what is right? I mean we’re our old folks & parents then somewhat wrong in their views which they tried to keep to, which were only maybe 30 to 50 years ago.
All above said in love & respect my dear friends, thank you for reading this & I hope many of us, even ALL of us on this worldwide forum will share heaven together.
God bless you all, from our small corner of the globe, N. Ireland xxx
If the children do not have to go to school on Sunday then they should not have to do homework.
Though you believe it is not right for a child to do homework on Sunday because it is a day of rest I would say it is not right for the teacher to make them do homework on Sunday because it is their time off from school.
I always thought homework was stupid for you are at home not school, but I can see it would make sense because the teacher has to teach so the students would not be able to get it done in class, and they have other classes where they have to pay attention there so they cannot get it done, or other subjects by the teacher if they do not have classes.
And they probably would not be able to cram it all in if they have study hall as a period, but grade school children most likely would not have a study hall.
Also it seems like parents helping their children with homework does not make any sense for they have to learn to do it themselves, and seems like cheating, which I never remember my parents helping me with my homework, except when I was going to kindergarten where my dad taught me, but after that I do not remember if he did.
But as far as Sunday being a day of rest it does not apply in the New Testament for it is spiritual now, and the Sabbath was on Saturday as a day of rest not Sunday, and it could not be moved to Sunday for it is spiritual in the new Testament not physical.
Creation of this earth, physical covenant with Israel, physical blessings, physical rest.
Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
On the sabbath day they could not do any work for personal gain, but they could do work on the sabbath if it had to do with the welfare of another like they were hurt and needed assistance, or needed food, and clothing, for love of people never takes a day off which Jesus explained this.
Creation of the new earth, spiritual covenant with Israel, spiritual blessings, spiritual rest.
Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Jesus took the physical ordinances of Israel out of the way including the sabbath days for they were contrary to us for they could not provide spiritual salvation, therefore let no person judge you and say you have to keep the sabbath days as a physical day of rest.
Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Heb 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Heb 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Heb 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Heb 11:14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
Heb 11:15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
Heb 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Luk 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luk 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you(when you receive the Spirit).
We go by the 2 greatest commandments love God, and love people, which the 10 commandments are love towards God, and people, so they are to be obeyed, but the sabbath is now spiritual in the New Testament, and we are not part of this earth anymore, but part of the kingdom of God, the New Jerusalem the new earth that Jesus went away to prepare for the saints.
The saints are strangers and pilgrims in the earth, and belong to the kingdom of God so they go by that sabbath which spiritual, and the creation of the new earth.
It is a spiritual rest now which we have everyday.
