what do you think it takes for a person to be saved?

I cannot speak, about what others believe about salvation,so I will only speak to what the Lord has showed me about salvation. To confess Jesus is one thing,we have seen many do this, but to live for Jesus, ah this is another matter. Many are quick to point out this scripture for salvation.( eph 2:8-10) and they are so right! And the grace that we have in our Jesus,is not to be taken, as a reason to sin because of it.( james 2:19-26)

Please read this all,so you have a greater understanding of what salvation truly becomes. To say one is saved but lives like the devil, there answer to there salvation will come from mat 7:13-29 saying we believe, and believing are two different things entire. In james we see true faith in salvation.Abraham was not called a friend to God because he said he believed,

He was called a friend to God because of what he did because he believed!verse22-24 Faith without works is dead.(verse 26) I do not measure my salvation by others here,I measure my own salvation with the Word of God. Do I make mistakes?? LOL More then I would like to, let me tell you!!

But the grace we have in Jesus is to perfect ourselves to him,by his very LOVE!( 1 john 4:7-21 I judge no one here!! I rather choose to love each of you, even as Jesus first loved me!( verse 19) To build you up in Jesus!! I hope these thoughts you will consider, before we judge another in there salvation.I choose to work out my salvation with fear and trembling.( phil 2:12-13) For that I examine myself in,is to make sure I never!! cause any to stumble!( matt 18:1-7) To stay humble, all I have to do is look to my own weakness in Christ, for there my brothers and sisters can we then understand how to become strong in him!! ( 2 Cor 12:9-10) Blessing to you all through our Jesus!

since this was posted twice. will post my answer twice..lol

I think it is important to know what salvation really is before we can come to this conclusion.

Scripture speaks of two things we need saved from.

1. Our eternal soul. Eternal separation from God as just condemnation (spiritual death)
2. Our mortal bodies, doomed to sickness, disease and death.

as you can see here. there are two deaths, one spiritual, one physical. God told adam, in the moment you eat you will die (literally dieing you will die. Adam died spiritually the moment he ate (proven by the fact he no longer knew God and tried to hide from him) and many years later, his second death occurred when he died physically.

As for number 1. There is only one thing which separates us from God. and that is sin. It is sin that separates us from God, thus the penalty of sin must be removed before we can be restored to the fellowship with God he wants so badly to have with us. So how is this, which we are guilty of, removed? How are we, who are guilty, declared innocent (justified)?

God begins to show us this in the very beginning. Adam and Eve stood naked and tried to cover their nakedness themselves. But God showed this was not good enough! They tried to hide from God, because they knew they had sinned. You see, if we stand before God with nothing but our own works, we stand naked before God. All our sin exposed. And we will get what we deserve. eternal death. But God showed how He can cover our nakedness. He took an innocent animal, Killed that animal (the first physical death on earth) and because that animal shed his blood. the skin of that body covered the nakedness of adam and Eve. The animal paid the price for adam and eves sin of disobedience. This is called redemption.

We know even up to the Law, Animal sacrifice was commonplace. God was still trying to teach us what th payment of sin was. When God established the law. he took this even further. He commanded that a priest would make atonement for the sins of the people by taking an innocent animal, without stain or blemish, and shed that animal's blood. God would see this, and "kook over the sin" of the people as a sort of covering. Until that which could make the one true sacrifice came.

Christ, when he came, was that innocent lamb which shed his blood for the world. As Hebrews says, without the shedding of blood, there can be no forgiveness. He died once that all mankind may be saved. As he said on the cross. "it is finished" the plan of salvation was complete. no more did man have to shed the blood of an innocent animal, which again Hebrews said, "could never take away sin" (the penalty).

the gift is offered to everyone. Christ, as the innocent animals of the OT showed, paid the ultimate price of redemption. However, just because it is offered does not mean it will be given. Adam and eve could have refused the skins, and kept covering their own nakedness. They did not though, because they trusted God. Cain refused to kill an animal, and gave of his hard work. god rejected his sacrifice. and as has happened throughout mankind. Cain (which represents the worlds way) hated Abel, Because God accepted Abels sacrifice and rejected cains. Then we get to the law. Although God made means, people had to chose to follow Gods plan they could have rejected it and did it there own way. We too can reject Gods ofer of salvation. and try to "work it out our own way">

What does it take to be saved from eternal spiritual death? Like adam and eve, Trust god (have faith) and receive his gift of forgiveness through the shed blood of his son. SO when we stand in front of God. he does not see our nakedness. He sees his son, which covers us.

As for the second death. Christ also showed this when he was resurrected after three days. Even though our souls can be fully saved as we are made alive again in him (born again). Our physical bodies will also be healed. we will be given a perfect body. where there will be no sickness, disease or death. As Paul said, Oh death where is your sting, where is your victory. Our salvation will be complete when we recieve these new, perfect bodies at the resurrection.

Here are some pretty good verses

Romans 3:23-24 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8-9 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.

Romans 10:9-10 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

Salvation is in Jesus Christ and in Him alone there is mercy, it depends upon Christ having mercy on the repenting sinner (Titus 3:5), and not anything the sinner can accomplish on his own. It is God Who saves.
Lord have mercy on us. Amen.

I totally agree with this premise. I believe that when we are saved, we are filled with a thankfulness that compels us to want to please God. While we remain imperfect, we have a desire to do what is right and follow His precepts. Salvation is not a license to sin. I can't help but wonder about how a "believer" will face Jesus when he or she has continued to sin indiscriminately after accepting Him as his Lord and Savior.

Matthew 7: 13 "http://www.biblestudytools.com/nas/matthew/7.html#cr-descriptionAnchor-11Enter through the narrow gate ; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 "For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Hmm. I wonder why that would be? According to many on here, it is easy to be saved. All we have to do is believe and have faith. Why would Jesus say that few will find eternal life? He makes it sound hard to get to heaven.

Matthew 19: 24 "Again I say to you, http://www.biblestudytools.com/nas/matthew/19.html#cr-descriptionAnchor-24it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Wow, that sounds really hard. Is it not possible for wealthy people to believe and have faith? Who are the rich? There are millions of people in the Phillipines making less than $10 a day. Millions more in Asia and Africa are starving, and have no easy access to clean water to drink. For most of us in the U.S. and other western countries, we are wealthy, when compared to a large majority of the world. Could Jesus be talking about us?

Matthew 7: 21 "http://www.biblestudytools.com/nas/matthew/7.html#cr-descriptionAnchor-18Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 "http://www.biblestudytools.com/nas/matthew/7.html#cr-descriptionAnchor-19Many will say to Me on http://www.biblestudytools.com/nas/matthew/7.html#cr-descriptionAnchor-20that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many http://www.biblestudytools.com/nas/matthew/7.html#fn-descriptionAnchor-nmiracles ?' 23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; http://www.biblestudytools.com/nas/matthew/7.html#cr-descriptionAnchor-21DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Jesus is talking about people who cast out demons in HIS NAME. He is talking about people who performed miracles in HIS NAME. These people had no faith? They performed miracles in Jesus' name, and they had NO FAITH? Demons obeyed them, and they had NO FAITH? SURELY THESE PEOPLE HAD FAITH! Why weren't they saved?

Kind of makes you think, doesn't it?

Brother superdave,You ask a fine question, and in this question here is one answer you may consider. Matt 6:19-21 A true treasure to me is not of anything, that can be taken away from us. But rather a treasure that once recieved can be given as well to others,to both encourage them, and make them stronger in Christ, then they first were.

Many Churches are teaching a easy religion,I am not into religion, but rather a relationship. In verse 24 we see the point. The circumstance of the ministry, and the very treasure we do have in Jesus comes from here I believe.( 2 Cor 4:7-18)verse 18 While we look NOT at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, for the things that are seen are temporal,BUT!!! the things which are not seen are eternal!! Praise the Lord! Blessing to you. And thanks for your very thoughtful words!!

yes it does.

1. too many people believe lies and do not test what is being told to them and do not develop a personal relationship with God. Until they have the Holy Spirit inside them that testifies that they are children of God they are not saved. Until they learn to take captive EVERY thought to the obedience of Christ they are NOT righteous. Until they learn to wield the sword of Spirit, God's Word and tame their tongue to discern between good and evil they are not mature. Until they learn to plant the seeds of God's kingdom into the lives of others, they are not good workers in God's fields. Until they learn to water and encourage new Christians into a deeper more personal relationship with God then they are not approved for they have been given one talent and instead of increasing it they hide it in the ground ashamed of the gospel of salvation given to them.... lol I could go on but to the next question then....

2. material wealth makes people forget that to be a friend to the world is to be an enemy of God

3. It was not the faith of the person doing the miracles or casting out the demons but the person they were delivering that allowed them to do these things. God did it for the ones in bondage so they might no longer be enslaved to Satan for they believed in the name of Jesus. the ones doing it just took the credit and glory for it in their hearts and did not give thanks to GOD for whose work it truly was but even in that statement you can hear the emphasis on the word "I" did this you should reward ME. but they did nothing, only God and His grace did.

that is sweet and encouraging like living water overflowing from the wealth of love God has poured into your heart and soul. thank you :)

Salvation is eternal life in and with God. Death is the opposite of salvation, death and separation from God.

Everyone will be resurrected. Some will be resurrected now, in this life in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, in which He came alive to an I destructible life. Others will have their part in the first resurrection, the resurrection to life. The rest will be in the second resurrection, which is to judgment.

Jesus said that everyone who believes in Him shall live, even if he dies; and everyone who lives and believes in Him shall never die.

Salvation is eternal lice with God. Jesus came that we might have life, and that more abundantly. He said the His sheep hear His voice, and Heknows them, and He gives them eternal life.

Thank you for your very good scriptures and words! You are absolutely correct. I posted this so that people would see the importance of personal sacrifice. You are right. It is about our relationship with Jesus. But how can we claim such a relationship when we are unwilling to sacrifice for others?

I am only beginning to be sanctified by Holy Spirit. There is so much to learn, and so much changing in my life that needs to be done. Jesus wants us to give ourselves to Him completely! He wants to use us to do great things. But so many of us only care about ourselves, and our own little worlds. So many people want to say, "I have faith, I believe", and continue to live their lives as they always have. Will these people be saved? I don't know. But I don't want to live my life that way. And it is only through the power of God, that my life can be changed into something that God can use, for His purpose.

Sorry to unload like this, but I just needed to say that. You sound like you are on the right path. I pray that God will continue to use you for good things, and that He will use me as well.

God bless

The Gospel is the power of God unto Salvation (Rom. 1:16a)

The Gospel must be heard (Mark 16:15)

The Gospel must be believed (Rom. 1:16b; Mark 16:16a)

The Gospel must be obeyed (2 Thess. 1:7-9; 1 Peter 4:17-18)

The Gospel concerns Jesus (Rom. 1:1-4)

The Gospel is about His death, burial, and resurrection (1 Cor. 15:1-4)

The Gospel is obey in ______________ (Rom. 6:3-5; Mark 16:16)

The one inescapable fact about salvation, about eternal life, is that they always follow death, the death of the believer. Just as it is written, the word of the cross (everyone who goes to the cross dies, and it is at the cross that we are first joined to Jesus, in His death,) is to those who are perishing, foolishness; but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.

God does not so much save us, rather He recreates us as new creatures after the image of Jesus. (He does not do this against our will, but rather plants the desire to become like Jesus in our hearts, and then fulfills that desire, if we seek Him.) again, as it is written, old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.

Salvation is our becoming partakers of the resurrection life of Jesus Christ.
