They quote that verse and "supposed church history" to help support their doctrine. They do this a lot. That is why solo scripture was such a big deal in the reformation. A lot that was recorded in supposed church history did not agree with the Scriptures and therefore did not set well with Luther and others who started the reformation. Here is an excerpt from one of their websites. Catholic Answers (link)I thought the RCC got that from tradition and from a distorted view of Matthew 16:18?
You can see what the Catholics think he meant. But no man should be exulted to the stature he writes of unless Christ Himself does it. The Church was already apostatizing in Paul's time. What did Ignatius mean by these different offices? Roman Catholic Church hierarchy, or, something else?
They were called to rest and have an holy convocation. A holy gathering.I just started this a moment ago, and it escaped from me somehow, so here I go, forgive me if part of thisis already posted.
It seems many believe the day of worship assembly is automatically the Sabbath of the Lord. Not so! We are permitted to worship seven days a week, and all who love God do this indeed, though not every day in assembly.
The Sabbath of the Lord cannot be changed unless God says it is, for it is the Seventh Day commoration of the beginning of this age with the creation week given to all in the Book Genesis.
The Seventh Day is the only Day givn as the Rest of God, given by God, Himself.
Do not confuse the two.....
As foot note I would like to add that you are also correct in that you said,I just started this a moment ago, and it escaped from me somehow, so here I go, forgive me if part of thisis already posted.

Lev 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
Isaiah wrote in 58:13, "If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words."
So the only thing left for one to do on the Sabbath would be GOD's work and worship. Right?
However one might argue that they were to remain in their own dwelllings. This is not the case . If this was then Jesus himself would have broken the Sabbath commandment. He did not.
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
(Luk 4:16 KJV)
But you are right in this respect. GOD only instituted one day to rest. The Sabbath. And that rest is in and with HIM on the seventh day.
To that I say Amen. Amen indeed!!!We are permitted to worship seven days a week, and all who love God do this indeed,
In point of fact at that time bishop was just another name for an elder. Later the titles were seperated with bishop being superior to an elder. Even later the bishop of Rome was deemed superior to the rest of the bishops. That was because Rome ruled its empire. Christians lived in the empire. They quote that verse and "supposed church history" to help support their doctrine. They do this a lot. That is why solo scripture was such a big deal in the reformation. On the Authority of the Catholic Church
The Greek root of the term catholic means "according to the whole" or “universal.” Ignatius uses the term to refer to the visible and authoritative Church:
See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is administered either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude of the people also be; even as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. —Letter to the Smyrnaeans, Ch 8
Ignatius urges the faithful to submit to the authority of their bishop because it is the will of God:But inasmuch as love suffers me not to be silent in regard to you, I have therefore taken upon me first to exhort you that you would all run together in accordance with the will of God. For even Jesus Christ, our inseparable life, is the manifested will of the Father; as also bishops, settled everywhere to the utmost bounds of the earth, are so by the will of Jesus Christ… Let us be careful, then, not to set ourselves in opposition to the bishop, in order that we may be subject to God. —Letter to the Ephesians, Ch 3,5
They have another web site where one can have access to a lot of these letters from Antiquity to which they resource. I will provide it in case you what to reserve the link for a future resource. It is called the Advent (link)
You can see what the Catholics think he meant. But no man should be exulted to the stature he writes of unless Christ Himself does it. The Church was already apostatizing in Paul's time.
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
(2Th 2:7-9 KJV)
I can't even imagine the state it was in in Ignatius' era. Not to mention ours.....

Roman Catholics claim Mary was sinless her whole life.Catholics claim protestants are using Sunday as the day of worship following their example.
Haha...How come this thread has multiple titles?![]()
Round and round we go and where we stop nobody knows.
Preaching to the choir.Roman Catholics claim Mary was sinless her whole life.
Roman Catholics claim Mary needed to be sinless so that Jesus could be sinless.
Roman Catholics claim Mary never died.
Roman Catholics claim Mary as an intercessor between man and God.
Spiritual or physical?I rest in and with Him every day
Yes!!!does it really 'matter',
That appears to be rather subjective though. How does one know?if you are listening and obeying The Holy Spirit,
instead of man?
The Holy Spirit will not contradict the Bible truth and that means we need to test all things. That appears to be rather subjective though. How does one know?
