Maybe I've missed a trick, but I don't see any fault in what he said.

Even before I became cynical about the new technology coming out, I thought DVDs were over rated and over priced.

The only downside to VHS tapes (or Betamax if you were so inclined) was that the quality gradually reduced over time and use. The absolute worst case scenario would be that the VCR chewed up the tape, but that was rare.

However, DVDs go wrong an awful lot in my experience - and when they go wrong they really go wrong. I can cope with a bit of fuzz from tape wear but I tear my hair out when the film I'm watching stutters, skips, plays the audio out of sync, or just insists there's some kind of disc read error and won't let me watch it. I'd rather watch a slightly diminished quality picture than no picture at all.

Then there's the awful digital fastforward and rewind that makes it hard to see where you are because it just skips a load of frames instead of actually running them faster. Oh, and with a tape you could stop it, take it out, watch another video, and then put the first one back in and resume exactly where you left off. The DVD chapter select nowhere near makes up for this.

Also, I can tape television programmes with my VCR; I can't with my DVD player.

And DVDs have painful menus that force you to watch their boring animations whenever you select anything instead of just getting on with it.

And then there's the rubbish you have to sit through just for putting the DVD in: adverts (one DVD was even trying to sell me Malteasers!) and unskippable copyright warnings and logos.

DVD's sure have their own unique drawbacks, but point for point it's better than VHS as both have problems and potential screw-ups but when they each work DVD delivers a better quality viewing experience, for me anyway, but I do HATE the animated menus on DVD's, really bad and annoying how quickly they repeat.

Pokemon couldn't go away fast enough, man I hated that, soooo annoying!!

N64, now that was a great thing, definetly a bright spot of the nineties, I used to kick butt driving as DK on MarioKart 64, awesome console, so awesome I still have one!

I suppose it depends what you're going for. DVDs do mostly have superior picture quality, but for me, their pros don't outweigh the cons. The simplicity, ease of use and (in my experience) less playing problems make VHS the winner for me. That plus nostalgia, of course. I even get excited when there's a line across the screen and I have to get down and adjust the tracking. But that's just me.


Oh, one more thing that I hate about DVDs: the region coding! Why must the customer be punished for buying a perfectly legal DVD and then be restricted to only watching it in the region of origin? Of course, there are incompatibilities between coutries with lots of products, but when they made DVDs they easily had the capacity to make them universal. So why didn't they?

I can certainly see the argument for VHS, although I was glad when the days of adjusting the tracking began to fade into memory, the memories are just fine, don't need to mess with that again.

But region coding is definetly the unforgiveable sin of DVD's, the modern obsession with policing digital media these days has gotten so stupid it actively encourages piracy because people are determined to get around it, people cracked their DVD players to break the region codes and so they made multi region players something you could buy outright, quite funny to see them joining in once the little trick was undone by the basement dwellers.

But I treasure my memories of watching Button Moon and Fantastic Max on VHS, great days!

Actually u cant compare that 2 seeing things differently to what he said and what u said, bc instead of just simply sayin " I remember DC Talk" he obviously just wanted to throw the "negro" part out there. I mean I could flip what he said and give u an ex using the guys from DC Talk but unlike some ppl I dont really get into the whole racial name calling. And yes what u two both said was ignorant and i dont feel bad about i said either...Just like he doesnt feel bad about "labeling" ppl as negros which was to be honest wasnt even necessary, I mean come on u can lie if u want but u know it wasnt...and DC Talk was the best 4 anyone wondering.

1. That's a rather bold assumption. Personally, I see no reason to believe that that was his intention.

2. The term 'negro' is not universally considered 'racial name calling' (and most certainly not where I'm from). In the strickest sense of the word, yes it is ignorance, but I'm certainly not ashamed of being uneducated in the details of foriegn politcal correctness fads.

All you did was reiterate your assertion that we're ignorant, and when you admit that you're just going to dismiss my opinion as a 'lie' what's the point of saying it?

But if you really want an answer, yes, I believe it was necessary for Ben to use that phrase because that was his entire point. As I understand it, DC Talk self identified as 'two hunks and a negro'. Therfore, what he said was factual and honest and there's no reason to believe he was trying to cause any offence.

As far as remembering the 90s .....I remember that the 90s was seriously the last decade to have just regular
cartoon animation, for animated movies. Now everything is Pixar animation, like the Incredibles and Cars.
Except for that movie that Frog Princess movie but the producers were just trying to recreate a disney princess and add
her to the collection of the other disney princesses that were in regular cartoon animation. I kind of miss cartoon seeing those
cartoon movies, but I kind of like the Pixar animations now too.

Never quite liked Rugrats but Hey Arnold was good, I was probably a bit too old for that even then but it was good stuff.
