How can we encourage church members to read and study the Bible?
In my experience most church members are taught by their pastor to read the Bible superficially,
They are taught to pray for miracles rather than learn how to apply GW to their lives including politics.
They are taught to identify the presence of the HS with emotional wind and fire rather than with the still small voice.
They are not taught that there is a time for fun fellowship and a time for meaningful communion with God via learning GW.
My constructive idea regarding how to teach Scripture beyond the basic Gospel is to begin by studying 1Pet. 3:15 and Eph. 4:11-15.
Then I would teach them to identify the HS with GW and that prayer should include thanksgiving and end with "May Thy will be done."
My sermons would be comprehensive, including information about history, the Greek language when helpful, hermeneutics, apologetics, how to harmonize the OT with the NT and how to apply GW to personal problems and political issues.
I might apologize for being too cerebral rather than an emotional orator and entertaining joke or story teller,
but I must leave that to those having such gifts--perhaps the Sunday School teachers?
