I think you basically stated what the link also said. Prophesized, or prophesied, both are claimed valid. But link did say prophesy seemed more old-fashioned than prophesize.Cannot read the linked page from this computer right now...
I am pretty sure that 'prophesize' includes the 'to'. ('prophesize' = 'to prophesy')
One use might be "He prophesized about..." - past tense, of course.
