For those of you who may not know there is a test of the emergency broadcast alert system set to take place nationwide on all phones that have WEA (wireless emergency alerts).
This test begins at 2:20 and will last for 30 minutes.
I didn't really want to post this but if you happen to know anyone that has a secret cellphone that they hide from their spouse because of domestic violence or something along those lines (can get more into depth if you'd like with other possibilities) then it's pretty dangerous for a phone to randomly blare a VERY loud alert in a rather disconcerting tone.
Also since the aforementioned alert can be quite jarring even if you don't have such a situation it's still a good idea to be aware of.
Unfortunately it's happening in 20ish minutes from the time of the post and while it's unlikely that even one person will benefit from this information "this time" (although still possible)...still it's important information to keep in mind because it's not exactly universal knowledge that these alerts CANNOT be disabled in the phone.
I can say that even Amber alerts at 2am when I'm about to fall asleep are not especially pleasant. I'd be curious if anyone does NOT find them jarring vs the radio ones or TV.

Anyway, on to more useful content that isn't time sensitive. Amber alerts CAN be turned off and if you ever encounter someone in this type of situation they are NOT announced and can cause people to be in jeopardy in such a situation.
I may add more if I can think of anything else that's pressing. I don't think you are being morally irresponsible by turning off amber alerts and if you "really" had some moral compunction about it (as it does indeed have a purpose) then there's more to discuss.
