Praying for Satan. Can we? Should we?

A friend of mine just told me that he has been praying for Satan that God would love him and have mercy on this enemy just as Jesus said he should. 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Matt 5:43&44

Praying for Satan and praying to satan is unbiblical. The nature of God is none responsive to the devil because his nature is an eternal fallen state of being. He comes ONLY but to steal, kill, and destroy. This is satan's nature and he has a destiny with eternal torment.

Yes I agree, Satan is extremely ignorant, evil, rebellious, blind and arrogant. But so was I for a long time. I turned people away from God like a true Pharisee making them twice as much a son of hell as I was. Yet one day God had mercy on me and imparted His grace to me ever since. God loved me His emeny. I can truly say the those who are forgiven much (by God), loves (God) much.

FYI you and satan have nothing in common. He is a created Being we were made in the image of God Satan was not. He was one of a kind. the devil is not ignorant, he was blinded by pride that was found in him.

Sometimes I don't pray for people, much less the devil. That's not what praying for our enemies means.

We ask God not to lay it to their charge that persecute us even to the death because we want them to have a chance to repent in this life.

After death it is too late. And for Satan he dwells in the spiritual realm of the "too late' His charges are already laid against him and his final disposition has been determined, the Lake of Fire.

That is correct. But The topic of honoring saints, angels or Mother Mary and the topic of icons is an exhausting topic debated over and over again without much fruit so it’s best to leave it alone.
But as far as this topic goes, nobody should pray for the salvation of Satan because the Bible tells us that his fate is sealed.

The problem here is Satan new God in all His glory power.. He walked away from that. There is nothing to bring him back. He knew what he was saying good bye to. Hes been judged already. Hell was already made for him. Some don't understand those that follow Satan know what they are saying no to. There is no wondering.. for them to live with GOD forever would be hell.

In the Orthodox Church we don’t pray FOR the angels but TO the angels.

The truth is Satan cannot change but will always be in rebellion against God's ways.

When the devil is cast to earth he will appear as the antichrist, New Age Christ to deceive the world to rebel against God which the Bible says he knows that his time is short.

Satan knows there is no way to beat God and knows he will be punished which the Bible says the devils believe in one God and tremble.

The fallen angels cannot be redeemed because they are one being so when they sinned they have nowhere to put off the flesh so they tainted their whole being.

But a human can be redeemed for all sin resides in the flesh, and in the flesh dwells no good thing, which the saints can put off the flesh and the soul is saved.

Why didnt he simply not put the tree of knowledge in the garden?

The knowledge of good and evil was part of the inheritance of the man and woman, in time the tree would have been theirs to consume.

“15All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.”

Even-so, the tree was not the source of sin. By itself, the tree was neutral. The enemy had already fallen by the time man and woman were placed in the garden. It was to this enemy that man was destined to show the wisdom of God.

Are you not aware that within The Scriptures there are commandments for believers, and one of them says we are to study the words of God as He has handed them down. They are not to be merely read. It is also presented as a continual ongoing process. So, to avoid the Scriptures is to ignore a commandment from God.

This one comes to mind:

It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

Jesus did say that to satan so.........maybe it's worth a look SEE

People are weird. Most people can't even forgive someone who looks at them funny, but they want to forgive Satan. The destroyer of the entire world and cause of all human suffering. Um.. okay.

Gideon, just wondering if God told you this, 'There is no plan of salvation for fallen angels and the devil'? I haven't ever read this in the bible to start with nor heard God speak this to me personally. Maybe He did to you. I'd be interested in your response.

It's certainly implied, if not directly stated, in God's word. Lord Jesus died and rose again as Man, not an angel. He is called the Last Adam. No reference to an angel there. It is also stated that (Revelation 20:10)

And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, into which the beast and the false prophet had already been thrown. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Satan's fate is already sealed. Nowhere does it say that Satan had an opportunity to repent. Lord Jesus said that He saw Satan's fall. Matthew 25:41 says that the lake of fire was prepared for the devil and his angels. The name "Satan" means adversary.

I believe that Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 talk about Satan as well as earthly kings. I was not taught this by anyone. As a young Christian, I was struck by those passages. It seemed obvious to me that they referred to Satan and his rebellion against God. We know that Satan was in Eden when Adam and Eve were created. So he had already fallen by then.

Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness and tried to influence Peter to hinder Jesus. Satan entered Judas to get him to betray Jesus. No, Satan has shown not the slightest inclination to back off his opposition to God. And God has nowhere said that there is any mercy or grace available to angels and the devil.

Yes I believe both Hitler and Satan will pay for their wrongdoings. And I equally believe that both will be shown mercy and experience God's grace some time in eternity. But what time they'll do for their crime is known by God the loving Judge.

But I haven't heard anyone say God told them not to pray for Satan and I've never read it stated by any of the contributors of the bible book either. What version, translation, text, person or spirit told you this?

2 Peter 2:4 states that “God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness.” Jude 6 states, “The angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.” Revelation 20:10 declares that Satan will be thrown into the lake of fire and tormented forever. I once thought as you did as I didn't look deep enough. This statement of John's could actually support the fact that God's loving kindness, His mercy and forgiveness and grace etc. has found a way to extend to even these 3 in time.

The people of the world are born spiritually blind. Satan knew God, he was created good, and he was in God's presence continually. Satan has no excuse. Satan is not ignorant and that is his downfall.

The word 'ever' that you quoted is ai'on (Greek) - definition: a space of time, an age. Usage: an age, a cycle (of time). So yes they will do their time for their crime. The loving Judge will determine that. If it was left to us humans to determine it would vary a lot I'm sure.
