I am seeing a phsycologist and it somewhat helping but then I have those sudden moments that I just can't control. Praying and reading the Bible does help but then again the sudden episodes occur. I have found that words and passages like the one you provide also help but then again is temporarily. I'm so torn
I'm not sure how much your psychologist has explained, but I find knowledge is your biggest weapon against mental illness.
Your days events unfold, at night you sleep and your mind pushes those events into past memories so that the next day they are all processed.
With PTSD what happens is an event happens that your brain doesn't push back into memory. Instead it gets locked in place at the front. Then when something triggers that thought, rather than it being a memory it plays out at the front of your brain, which makes you instead feel you're living it over, rather than remembering it.
So the key is to get that lock open so your brain can process the event properly.
There is a treatment called EMDR which is known to have a high success rate. People must be specifically qualified and trained for it. Simply being a psychologist or psychiatrist alone does not qualify one to use it.
It sounds weird on the surface, but it's actually quite mundane.
You sit in a chair, a light zips side to side. You follow it with your eyes only. Faster is better (to a point). It will be set up by your counselor either way.
And really all you do is spend a few minutes per segment following that light and following the Very lose guidance of your counselor who is helping you to have the correct focus on the trauma.
Following the light replicates REM sleep, where you eyes zip back and forth. The guidance is just to keep you at a steady pace with your thoughts.
In other words you're tricking your own mind to think you're asleep while focusing on the trauma so the fake REM forces your mind to process the event.
Best case scenarios have seen trauma unlocked completely in a single 1 hour session. Some have taken longer. Of course it's not a guarantee, but success rates are high.
At no point are you hypnotized or anything similar. Quite the opposite it requires you to be fully alert, awake and in control.
I, no doubt, could've explained all that in half the time, but I had the time to spare haha.
Hopefully it's a help, and if not you'll soon find what does.
