I very recently discovered that we have so many beautifully written prayers. I know there are many in the Bible, but I didn't realize there are literally books-on-books of them! I'm excited to discover even more!

Do you have any favourites, or prayers you've written yourself that you'd like to share?

Serenity Prayer
:)

Hmm... Praying is just talking to God. I never have found somebody else's conversation with God to be very useful for me personally, because I'm a different person and I have different things to talk about with God. Also God has different things to talk about with me.

Much hay was made a few years ago about the Prayer of Jabez. They sold a lot of those books and probably made a ton of money. But that prayer those books were talking about was a downright selfish prayer. If I was Jabez I'd be downright embarrassed that THIS is what people remember me for.

Even the much lauded Lord's Prayer was a template, not a complete pattern that should be followed word-for-word. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he laid down a list of priorities, what should be most important in your prayer and in what order.

I can think of a song for this though...

And one for the road:

Lord, what we have not, grant us. What we know not, teach us. What we are not, make us. Amen.

That's a really good point--definitely something I will think about!

Well since you posted this thread and I got a text around noon from church saying, the person who was scheduled to do the prayer in service tomorrow can't do it, can you? Here's what I've got for tomorrow's prayer (I type them out ahead of time so I don't get up there and ramble on like an idiot for way too long):

Good Morning. As we approach the 4th of July let’s take some time this morning to pray for our nation and it’s leaders and to thank God for the many blessings we enjoy living here.
Father, we thank you for this day and that we live in a country where we are free to gather and worship you. We ask that you would turn hearts in this nation back to you and bring revival. Reveal where we have compromised with sin and give us a new desire for holiness. We ask you to heal our land of division, strife, addiction, anxiety, and fear. We know your word says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and we ask that that fear would be upon President Trump and his administration, that they would always remember they are accountable to you. Pour out your wisdom on them as they face the challenges of leading this nation. We ask the same for our governor and our local leaders as well, that you would lead them to decisions that bring peace, righteousness, and prosperity to our region.
We thank you for our freedom Lord, but we know that true liberty comes not from a government, but from surrendering to you. We remember that it is for freedom Christ set up free and we ask that you would reveal the things that still hold us captive and give us the courage to take hold of the freedom he won for us. Thank you for being our savior and provider and setting us free from the fear of death and lack. Remind us to use our freedom to serve you and invite others into the freedom of your kingdom. In Jesus name and for his sake. Amen

That is a beautiful prayer! I especially love when you say "Reveal where we have compromised with sin and give us a new desire for holiness." I'm putting that on a sticky note. I'm missing church tomorrow for work, so this was very special. Thank you!

not really a prayer but i created this lesson a while back: "as quickly as you don't pray, you will see the difference in a day"!

Before I get up in the morning:

"Lord, please help me this day, to do what you want me to do, and say what you want me to say."
I'm taxing that one! Talk about in a nutshell, i sort of say it but by the time i've got there, he'd have probably lost the will to live if he was human.

Nice to see you back 'round the forum, miss Learner! 😎
Best forum on this site, it's a credit to you and seoulsearch. Need to sort a grocery order and hoping that post on the BDF will be deleted. Was a naive rookie when i created the post, definitely won't make that mistake again

Oh, it's definitely a credit to a LOT of people! I'm curious what exactly causes the chill dynamic here as opposed to other forums but would only be speculation. 🤔

I do have to admit that most of us regulars put lot of effort into politely, but firmly, dissuading the more unruly types from pitching a tent in Singles.

And, we like to mix in a lot of light-heartedness and fun.

I like to say that other parts of the forum are the Bible lesson at church -- Singles is the coffee and donuts fellowship hour afterwards.

I haven't been here long, but that is the exact mood I've been noticing here, too! I love it! Thank you guys for being so cool.

Y'all can have all the coffee. But anyone who makes a move on the donuts gets a face full of claws. Just saying.
