Rev 2:7 Jesus said; He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
(NOTE: To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life)

(NOTE: He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death)

Rev 2:17 Jesus said; He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
(NOTE: To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it)

Rev 2:26 Jesus said; And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
(NOTE: And he that overcometh to him will I give power over the nations

Rev 3:5 Jesus said; He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
(NOTE: He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels)

Rev 3:12 Jesus said; Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
(NOTE: Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God)

Rev 3:21 Jesus said; To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
(NOTE: To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne)

Rev 21:7 Jesus said; He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
(NOTE: He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son)

How does one overcome?
1 Jn 5:
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
(NOTE: Every person/believer indwelt with Jesus salvation sealing Holy Spitit)

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
(NOTE: What to be an overcomer & receive Christ's promises? Place your faith/trust in Jesus atoning work. Found in Christ's death (sins required wage PAID), burial (proof Jesus died) & resurrection (God's receipt, sin payment received & accepted) Christ will take care of the rest.

"Post is My Opinion Only."

Not sure why you said that statement quoted above. Didn't you use words from the Bible and aren't you leading us towards the Kingdom of Heaven or are you just sharing your opinion without wanting to pull any weight? If it's the latter, then what's the point? It's gotta always be the former in the Kingdom of God. Unless you're speaking of things that are not of the Gospel, I'd refrain from saying "post is my opinion only" as it sounds weak and uninspiring. Always lead your brothers and sisters in Christ towards God unabashedly.

Being a scientist and engineer myself, I do use that statement at work sometimes, but only regarding new scientific/engineering/solution/method discoveries or recommendations that are not well elaborated yet or highly depend on personal preferences. This clearly does not apply to scripture.

Godspeed.

Hello Andy,
I believe God's word is alive, active (Heb 4:12), always accomplishes its purpose & NEVER returns to Him void (Isa 55:11)

I see the posted scripture as the inspiration. My opinion comment is directed toward (MY NOTES). Best wishes FD.

Thanks for starting a good thread worthy of a good Bible Study. We could talk about these scriptures for a long time as they continuously yield revelation of our daily warfare. They are so concise yet so full of meaning.

It is not my intention to be contentious but I find fault with the simplicity of your presentation. You seem to be suggesting that being born again is all that is intended in the text you quoted as to the meaning and definition of overcoming. You seem to be equating saying "the sinners prayer" with overcoming. At least that is how it reads.

If we examine the text and the context of these letters to the seven churches the admonition to "overcome" is connected to a call to repent and to change some behavior or teachings in at least 5 of the cases and where there is not a specific rebuke and a command to change there is a reference to a hardship they will face which will require faithfulness through a trial.

The admonition to overcome suggest that the rewards of overcoming is their encouragement to obey Christ and endure what they will have to endure, or change what he is telling them to change. To the church of Ephesus there is an expectation to return to their first love if they would have the rewards of the overcomer. To the church in Sardis...Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.... Overcoming included strengthening the things that were ready to die... and so on for each church. Anyone can read it for themselves and understand what he is telling each church to overcome.

All these churches existed at the same time that this was written and represented all local churches, and it has been applicable to each church since that day and is applicable to us today.

These are concise messages that have an overarching theological application to our current warfare as we are still facing the same strategies of satan and doctrines of demons that would attempt to derail us as those churches were. The same demons are still active. We are in a war and it is imperative that we be AWAKE to these demonic teachings that would try to make us wink at sin. We are to overcome the things that are mentioned in these letters to the 7 churches today as well. Overcoming goes beyond initial born again experience.

It is a daily warfare and we are promised the rewards of the overcomer if we hold fast his name in the face of persecution but if we deny him for convenience of earthly comforts, or do not repent of the things he rebukes in these letters then we will not inherit the rewards of the overcomers. Let us not attempt to change the meaning intended by the Holy Spirit in it's original context in order to fit an imagined narrative that we should be abandoning instead.

I like to keep things in the public forum as I am writing for the edification of all that read my posts.

If you think about it these are Jesus last words to the Church. And as we place great importance on someone's last words it stands to reason that we should consider these 7 letters to be some of the most important warnings that the church could hear.

We find in these warnings the root error in many false teachings that will come our way in our journey. You will notice that several of the errors have the same thing in common, "fornication" or compromise with the world and with sin, (if you want to spiritualize it.)

At the time they were written these churches were under attack. We are still under attack. We are called to try those that say they are apostles and are not, we are called to love one another fervently as the church of Ephesus was known for at the first (see Eph 1) we are called to repent if we have left our first love, we are called to confront and cast out those who teach the doctrine of balaam who taught Balak to send the loose Moabite women down to the camp of Israel to fornicate with them and thus bring the curse the king was hoping for but Balam was not able to prophesy.

In different forms from different angles the devil is constantly trying to infiltrate the local churches with false teachings that will get people to believe that they can indulge in the lusts of the flesh and still claim to the promises and blessing of God, but the call is to fight against all these strategies of the devil and to overcome. He that does not resist or decides to "throw in the towel" and just habitually yield to the convenient doctrine of compromise with the world will not inherit the promises that are directed toward overcomers because... well, they are required to be overcomers to inherit the promises of overcomers. That is just how it works. Nothing we can say or imagine will change that.

So what are we to do? Exactly what it says in these seven letters. Meditate on them and may the Lord give you understanding and the faith to endure unto the end.

Revelation Chapter 2 and 3. I am working on memorizing both chapters word for word.

"My opinion comment is directed toward (MY NOTES)."

Good. Own up to them if you want them to make a difference in the world too instead of sharing as merely an opinion that could be disregarded. Otherwise, I'd wonder again: "What's the point?"

I realize it is wrong to do so in Science and Engineering (my fields of work and university degrees) since one may never be fully sure that a scientific discovery is true or that an engineering recommendation appeals to the customer, so things are stated as simply opinions out of respect for the listener. None of this applies to talking about scripture and doing good in the Kingdom of God though. People have to always pull their weight to make things happen.
