Hey oyster67 in real life when a branch is not producing fruit they will lift it up (airo is better translated "lifts up" ) so it gets light and can then produce fruit. Its one of those things where that word "also means".

So me I am never in fear that He will brake me off and cast into the fire. That cannot never happen. He never talked like that to the 12

Apparently, only eternal security folks can do good works. I'm not saying anything they haven't said a million times: that is, works are evidence of faith. But now I'm attacked for saying exactly the same things they've said over and over. Hey Blade, in John 15:6 when a branch is not producing fruit Jesus will cast it into the fire and burn it. Doesn't sound like much of an uplift to me.

From what I understand, what actually happens is that when the branch DOES produce fruit, the husbandman lifts it up upon a rock from the dirt and washes it.

Yet another beautiful picture of the work of Christ in our lives.
