Rev_3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Christ never said He would erase a name. Christ will never erase our names from the book of Life, because God already knew who would be saved or not. So our names were written in there before the foundations of the world.
An overcomer is not a person that works really, really hard. It’s not a person that has to strive daily, trying to do nothing but good. It’s not a person that goes to Church every Sunday. It’s not the one that repents 10 times in a day for forgiveness. What is the biblical definition of an overcomer?
Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world,
even our faith.
1Jn 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
We don’t overcome by our works, or some 10 point power point presentation display on how to be saved and keep your salvation. We are overcomers because of what Christ did for us on the cross. Christ is just making a simple statement here.
Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
He is saying that if your name is in the book of life, that He won’t blot it out. It’s pretty simple huh?
See, this letter is talking about a dead church. It’s talking about those that have a name that is alive, but they are dead. How is the only way a person can be dead? To be without Christ. They are dead. So the letter is telling them to get saved. If you get saved, then I won’t blot your name out. If you don’t get saved, I will blot your name out. It’s quite simple when you put it all into context.
Let’s take this even further.
Rev 3:1 And to the messenger of the assembly in Sardis write: These things says he who is having the Seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I have known your works, and that you have the name that you do live, and you are dead;
See how Christ says that He knows their works? They have a name that they live, but are dead? Well, when Christ refers to works, then what does He tell His disciples?
Joh 6:28 They said therefore unto him, 'What may we do that we may work the works of God?'
Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God, that you may believe in him whom He did send.'
Isn’t it very clear that it’s referring to unsaved people? These people call themselves a Christian, but they have not believed that Christ was the only begotten Son of God. They do not belong to Christ, so they are dead. Christ tells them this. He said, “I know your works (you don’t believe), and you are dead.
