From 5 years ago I had one of the dozen that came to our yard for peanuts and such. It took a while to get him to trust me.
In my right hand is a steel rod with a pointed end. I'd insert the point into 1/2 of a shelled skinned peanut and call him to me. He's jimp unto the arm of the chair and climb my arm up to my shoulder and take the peanut. Most times he'd sit there to eat it and I'd give him another. He'd stay 'til he was full. And yes the claws stung just a bit on bare skin.
If you try this please remember that when you touch a peanut the scent transfers to your fingers. Sometimes the squirrrels bit the scent rather than the nut
