Flat Earth
I suppose that as long as there are no actual FE pilots, or sailors, or engineers, etc., there is no harm in holding to this theory. Are there any Flearthers that have been successful in securing a pilot's license, even if the otherwise incompetent has been? I do gather that a rocket launcher has to take into account the curvature of the earth to reach a certain target accurately. I mean, why do basketballs need to be thrown up if the hoopster can't count of the pull of gravity to bring the ball back down into the hoop? The strongest argument is that such as the assumed reality that a round house has no corners. However, as long as there are any turns within that house, it will have as many corners are there are turns within it.Hi @Mem
Thanks. I guess I see now what the picture is attempting to portray. Although, even if the earth were flat, I don't think you could see the pyramids from New York. I don't think the eye can see that far through the atmosphere. I've never been swayed by the FE arguments.
"You hit the nail on the head!"I don't think the eye can see that far through the atmosphere.
Hi @GaryA"You hit the nail on the head!"
This is one of the key things about the true reality that we experience - whether or not we recognize it or realize it - what we see as the horizon is an effect that comes from how our eyes work and is affected by the 'atmosphere' - weather, etc. - not the "rolloff" of curvature.
If that were true - the higher you went up - the more you would have to look down to see the horizon - which would move with the "rolloff" of curvature.Yes the curvature of the earth does have something to do with how far we can see. Especially the higher up you go. Say the top of a 80 story building or high mountain.
It's meant to be satirical. And given a powerful enough telescope and the right climatic conditions, you should be able to see hundreds of miles. And that is the point, the curvature of the earth prevents that.Hi @Mem

So why do we not slide off? God condemns slander, by the way. And denying the moon landings is calling a whole bunch of born again Christians liars.Oh my.. lol! That is taking flat earth seriously.. Most people that don’t accept the world is a sphere.. don’t propose that either.
I’m unsure..
My theory: Earth is circular.. not flat.. definitely built up and tilting…
You can mock and belittle until the cows come home.. I enjoy it! I don’t believe the moon landing occurred either. Intuitively speaking, lol!
