Peter taught "Repent and be baptised".

Acts 2:38
"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

And the obvious thing is so we can be forgiven of our sins, which is then sealed with the Holy Spirit.

Now some churches extend this to infant baptism, confirmation etc. which I do not follow.
Some think faith is not relevant before the age of responsibility.

Interestingly Paul talks about children being holy through the faith on one of their believing parents,
which implies they are saved up to the age of responsibility. He never went so far as to declare them saved
in the sense of the in dwelling Holy Spirit, but this creates a dilemma of is their salvation lost if they come
of age and do not express their personal faith?

1 Cor 7:14
For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy

What are you referring to? Yes it is a good testimony to believe Jesus saves us. Are you implying it is not good to have faith in Jesus to save us? Because that would be odd, so I would appreciate some clarity, please, or you are not what you appear to be.

My understanding is baptism is the celebration of the forgiveness of sins we have through the death and resurrection of Jesus. But before the cross it was the symbolism of the cross in shadow form.

It appears God wanted the people to be cleansed ready to receive Jesus, the relationship. It was a common miss-conception that salvation was based on a righteous walk, when the relationship is the righteousness, the walk is its reflection.

You seem fascinated with "yes" "no" questions over complex issues.
And reading in things is dangerous, asking is much better.

Much of what I know of heresies within the church has been acquired in the years that I've been on Christian Chat. Typically persons who are in churches that are doctrinally strong won't have knowledge of them unless their church works to familiarize their congregation with common heresies.

I have come to the conclusion when people do not answer, they are afraid to, knowing their answer will do some damage to their system.

One important way to emphasise the commitment of a believer to walk with Jesus all their life is to declare this.

In a marriage ceremony you pledge to death do us part. Is that then saying your love is not strong enough to last
till we die, or to show the importance this relationship has to you?

So I celebrate the commitment and enthusiasm all have for Jesus. Clearly certain aspects for you invalidate the faith.

I do not reject any scripture. You do. Basically I agree that once we are saved we are always saved, but at the same time I am aware it is possible to backslide, while you deny this, so opening the door to any sort of lifestyle that is not pleasing to God. I feel that while it is fairly common, at least on the internet, none-the-less it has the makings of a dangerous heresy. The Bible tells us to live a righteous life, that is pleasing to God.

The scripture that has been given is about salvation only, but there is nothing about growing in grace, the Christian life or walking day-by-day with the Lord.

Basically I agree that once we are saved we are always saved, but at the same time I am aware it is possible to backslide, while you deny this, so opening the door to any sort of lifestyle that is not pleasing to God. Sorry I am not discussing what a third party said or did not say and my reaction or not to that statement.
None of this is productive and is not what I have read, so lets finish it there.

Hebrews 6:4-6 tells us the backslider cannot repent again, otherwise he is putting Christ to open shame. He has already lost his salvation.
