So,

Luke 6:49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

I'm sure that in your daily life you live according to Jesus. That makes you a wise man, so stop worrying.

I strive to be good but i'm not that good.
There are moments my heart can be as dark as tar, and it is during those moments I commit my spirit to the Lord, as always, and I know I am forgiven because I know He doesn’t forsake His children.

But who are His children?
1 John 3:9Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.

Hmm.. I guess Paul forgot to mention that in (Romans 3:22-28; 4:5-6; 5:1).

Target audience; Romans/ Gentiles

Huddle Paul is trying to overcome; No Jew or Gentile, all are the same according to the promise to Abraham which he received by faith

Underlying message; No one is justified by the works of the law which came for the Jews.

I also repeat the same thing. No one can be justified by the works of the law, we are justified by grace through faith in Christ. This doesn't mean we sit and relax, we still have to obey.

1 John 3:
17If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?

18Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth. 19And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence

Love is work. Pushing a wheel chair is work both by religious definition and Physics also.
Giving to the needy is work. Work is love and without it we are nothing.

You did not understand a thing I was trying to share with you.

Are you Born Again, and how do you know?

OBEDIENCE is what LOVE produces, while SALVATION has always been a Free Gift of Grace, from before time began.

2 Timothy 1:9 (HCSB)
9 He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

MY OBJECTION TO THE USE OF THE WORD WORKS STILL STANDS.

103,282+ posts on this thread and no closer to agreement than from post #1.

Titus 3:9"But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain."

John 17:3
“Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.”

Matthew 11:29"Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you will find rest unto your souls."

no closer to agreement

Actually many of us agree completely on the OP.

Titus 3:9
"But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain."

What Paul is addressing here is not even remotely connected to the topic at hand.

John 17:3
“Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.”

Yup and that is the truth we continually defend

"Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you will find rest unto your souls.

No one learns of Jesus apart from truth

We did, we obeyed Jesus and believed in Him for salvation.

This thread is about justification which is by faith apart from works which cannot be revoked or lost.

I know the bible talks of salvation being a gift but why do you say it is a free gift? what is your understanding of that phrase?

If it is free gift, why isn't everyone saved? maybe there's some condition which disqualifies some.

The command was to love, how do obey that command? it can not be by believing anything.

God is the giver of eternal life, but we have the free will to either accept or reject God's free gift of eternal life with Him.

Being persuaded of truth is not an act of your will.

You cannot "will" yourself to believe, you either believe a truth or you do not, it has nothing to do with will power.

The gospel is not make a decision, the gospel is believe.

Do you think He commanded love for eternal life?

Yes.

1 John 3:11This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he slay him? Because his own deeds were evil, while those of his brother were righteous. 13So do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.
14We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. 15Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that eternal life does not reside in a murderer.

This is about having eternal life not receiving it.
