Thank you for clarifying that for other posters, members, guests, etc, Rosemary, and I am glad to hear it was such a comfort to you, and what you needed to hear :) There are those whose modus operandi is to regularly post reams of Scripture, which others often skip over because walls of text are generally not well received on discussion boards. However, those of us who know our lovely Ed, also know he is not one of those who does that. I did a double take when I first saw it LOLOLOL :D

We are not rejecting Jesus. We are being honest and asking him to conform us to his image.

Does not a struggle involve wanting to be something we are not?
What is our guide?

And if we fail to struggle and give up or never start, what happens then?

Paul says this worrying things

Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.
You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness
Romans 6:16-18

Paul sounds very victorious.
 
The "God winks at our sin" universalists need to run by me a scenario.
Some SPECIFIC example. Of a believer in unconfessed ,unrepented,habitual sin,that straightens out and BEGINS walking again in Holiness.

All that broadbrushing appears to be simply settling into some carnal walk, wearing out Gods eyelids as He nods and winks in oblivion to wilful sin

Struggling with the flesh.
That's why we need to renew our minds and put in the armour of God..

What happens if we give up you ask.
What is to give up and why?
What do you think?

Is sanctification not an ongoing, life-long process? Growing in faith
and reliance upon the Lord does not happen all in one fell swoop.

We have 3 enemies.
The world,flesh,and the devil.
These involve or lead into sin.

Struggle is too broad.
Sin is the gamechanger

some people seem to be delusional and think they dont need the imputed righteousness of Jesus - never born again


others know what our Lord and Savior did on the cross and submit to His righteousness and are - born again


i think these people still pointing at sin and being carnal may still have assurance issues and not yet seen the transformation

or have had too much exposure to "prosperity" types who think saying the sinners prayer is enough.... (your work in itself)

its crazy how you can agree with the bible and say "not by works" and give glory to Jesus


then people come in adding to and taking from what it means to be saved waving their fingers around at imaginary straw men

If i were walking in carnal disobedience and liked it,your council would be most welcome.
We could in fact wink with God at each other

It sure is.
Alas people negate the cause of the effect in a person's life.

They just spout "Jesus said dont sin so stop sinning"

There is a reason why believers still struggle with the flesh. It's a shame they are not interested in the cause.
The cause is not necessarily "I love it and want to do it"
It goes deeper if they don't want to do it.

Did not Peter sin?

So,you are saying we can sin all we want since the blood makes things right abstractly

Many struggle with the desire to have a life partner, when the reality is, that a "romantic" relationship is not necessarily part of God's plan for all those He calls His own. Being in a relationship puts our minds on worldly things, as opposed to being focused on the Lord, and yet Paul says it is better to be married than to burn with lust (because lust is a sin). Some may go through multiple phases of being attracted to someone only to feel the sting and pain of rejection at some point, or even their own loss of interest for whatever reason, leading them ever closer to total reliance upon Jesus Christ as the One Who validates and fulfills them. They stop looking to others to be and do for them that which only He can. Faith in Him to carry us through any and all life circumstances grows with life experience. Worldly desires wane.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

"GRACE IS NOT A LICENCE TO SIN"

GRACE COVERS OUR SINS.

Go back read what I have said. Then come back and quote where I have said it's ok to sin all we want.

Do you believe in sinless perfection?
Do me a favour and answer that.
