It's Jell-O. Every time I think I've nailed something to the "I Understand This" wall, someone comes along and shows another Scripture!!!
IMO learning about Him is a life long journey . . . .
Indeed, Hizikyah. But honestly, I came to CC with the hope of getting a shot at revved-up learning about the Reformed ideas, and it has become disheartening. Perhaps I am having computer problems on top of phone problems on top ofcomputer problems on top of phone problems on top of . . . to drive me away from both and into the Book.
I feel so deficit with regard to understanding the many Reformed ideas that I had gravitated toward such threads on another site, learning quite a bit there. However, they promised to boot me for (as I have mentioned here) eating kosher, so I disconnected and came here instead. However, there is so much rudeness and daily repetition that it is hard to trudge through it all. I've stopped reading many of the posts.
Several times, I have wanted to copy this to both Arminians and Reformed:
"He who corrects a scoffer
gets dishonor for himself,
And he who reproves
a wicked man gets
insults for himself.
Do not reprove a scoffer,
or he will hate you,
Reprove a wise man and
he will love you." (Proverbs 9)
Faith is the root of salvation and works are the fruit. No fruit at all would demonstrate there is no root. It's not easy to tell if Ralph clearly understands that or if he is saying that BOTH faith AND works are the root of salvation by saying, "you cannot separate works from salvation."I understand you said salvation and works cannot be separated when clearly according to Scripture they can be.
Faith means believing, trusting, relying and obedience which follows and is produced "out of" faith is works. Accomplishing multiple acts of obedience/works is a manifestation of our faith, but not the essence or origin of it.What about the thief on the cross next to Jesus? He was saved and had no good works to show for it...
The comparison of the human spirit and faith converges around their modes of operation. The spirit (Greek pneuma) may also be translated "breath." As a breathless body emits no indication of life, so fruitless faith exhibits no indication of life. The source of the life in faith is not the works; rather, life in faith is the source of the works.Re: Not By Works
James 2:26, “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so the faith without works is dead also.”
In James 2:14, we read of one who says/claims he has faith but has no works. Where is the evidence? This is not genuine faith, but a bare profession of faith. So when James asks, "Can that faith save him?" he is saying nothing against genuine faith, but only against an empty profession of faith/dead faith. So James does not teach that we are saved "by" works. His concern is to show the reality of the faith professed by the individual (James 2:18) and demonstrate that the faith claimed (James 2:14) by the individual is genuine.James 2:14, “My brothers, what use is it for anyone to say he has belief but does not have works? This belief is unable to save him."

Keep in mind that James is discussing the evidence of faith (says-claims to have faith but has no works/I will show you my faith by my works - James 2:14-18), not the initial act of being accounted as righteous with God (Romans 4:2-3)
Although works-salvationists often deny that they teach salvation by works, by the time one cuts through all of their sugar coated double talk, it turns out that's exactly what they teach.Who said saved by works? That seem to be the battle cry of against any who say obedience is required. But without mercy all would be judged to fall.
But we see it clearly in Scripture, the saints have faith in Yahshua and obey the Commands, there is no speaking against this:
Revelation 14:12-13, “Here is the endurance of the set-apart ones, here are those guarding the Commands of יהוה and the Belief of יהושע. And I heard a voice out of the heaven saying to me, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Master from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, in order that they rest from their labors, and their works follow with them.”
We can philosophize, make excuses, quote other verses, this is fact
“the set-apart ones, here are those guarding the Commands of יהוהand the Belief of יהושע.”
“and their works follow with them”
we can come up with anything we want, let Yah tell the truth and let every man be a liar.
