There are some vile people on this site, with twisted minds, and such confidence, confidence to defile others, or corrupt others, maybe even they are blind, or their minds so broken they do not see it. Aren't we supposed to bring purity to the table? How does one grow a garden which is an example of the beauty of purity, if you allow the weeds to grow? This site seems to allow weeds to grow. I'm not sure why. But it makes it impure.
Maybe that is your problem...instead of being in you the Spirit is still kept outside knocking trying to get by your false working for dogma............

I prayed for years before I was saved. As Scripture states, I was not looking for the One True God, but I was seeking spiritual truth. God revealed Himself to me a number of times in a number of ways. I recognized Him each time but was not convinced in my natural self that it was the God of the Bible and Jesus Christ, until I could absolutely no longer deny it. He called me out of my pagan practices and put a choice before me. It was not easy overthrowing my whole way of life and thinking to surrender to the God I had been running from the majority of my adulthood, and seeking to redefine to my liking for many years. Eventually I surrendered because no other source besides Scripture could satisfactorily answer the questions I had about what I experienced. Now I see Him for Who He has revealed Himself to be. Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

He doesn't get it, and never will. The "we" refers to those elect, truly born again. When he says "The one..." (who doesn't do these things) he is referencing those who are false converts, not truly converted and lost.
It is not then about believers at that point with some kind of warning of;"You better start doing this if you want to go to heaven!!!" That teaching rejects the finished work of Christ and places salvation in the hands of men. No man would ever make it into His kingdom under those demands.
But that is the sense in which Stephen63 is contorting the Word of God to make it mean what he wants it to mean, unfortunately.
Nevertheless the "we" and "they" comparisons of 1 John contrast the true convert with the false. It is a series of descriptions of these two different persons.
Then 1 John 5:13 is written and applicable to those who pass the tests of conversion, and bear the fruit of being truly born again, as per his inspired epistle and its intent.

The thief preached Christ, that is one good work of his on the cross. Obviously in betwixt his deriding of Christ and his great confession he was regenerated by God. He made it plain he feared God, the beginning of wisdom. He believed in his just punishment for personal sin. He showed repentance and its fruits. He made an apologetic speech for the Christ. He preached the sinlessness of Christ. He believed in the eternal kingdom of Christ.
