Oh I finally got it. "Rather than"..
Sorry Peterjens, your posts can be as confusing as G777 some days.

If you're speaking to me, I'll be happy to answer.I don't like this wording of "following Satan" because it may give the false impression that Satan equal to God. People don't have to follow Satan to disobey God.,they can make their own kingdoms and many other sins.
Following flesh is not the same, because Satan isn't as powerful as God and demonic influence is different from fleshly influence.
However that could be a totally different conversation.
If you're speaking to me, I'll be happy to answer.
But I'm not sure you are...
Hi Ariel
What is a spiritual stronghold?
John 14:6 teaches us:
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
If a good work could get me to heaven, Jesus need not have sacrificed himself for me.
However we often miss the commandment set out in James 1:27 which says:
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
So looks like we are told how to be saved AND how to act as Christians on earth.
I know, FranC of communities who abandon works also. I guess the key is to strive to do both as both are set out clearly.
Praying for clarity and understanding is key also I think. I know personally a lot of religion seemed rather foggy to me till I honestly just sat down with God and said look I don't get this; please help me.
Boom! Drop the mike! God was there with a plan and it's like night and day. He is so awesome
Do you understand THE FLESH to be the same thing as the SIN NATURE?
IOW, our heart if pure. God said He would give us a new heart. Jeremiah 31. Ezekiel 36:26
God resides in our heart and we want to do His will.
But we still have a sin nature. It's put under submission, but it is still present.
If it were not, we'd never sin.
I suppose that you call this the flesh.
Just a repost. From Seoche " The purpose and intentions of some here is quite questionnable. If Christ is the mediator between God and man, can't He between men as the Word of God? Humility is lost in this thread which causes division and strife."
The discussion often gets heated on both sides of the debate, but God doesn't tell us to judge the truthfulness of the message by the holiness of the messenger, though many do use that at a judge.
With everyone God is still working on our hearts and minds to conform to His will.
For a few days, this thread was going fine. People shared their personal testimonies and it truly felt like the Holy Spirit was moving in the hearts and minds of many present.
Then a wave of delusion came and certain members felt attacked and felt the need to defend themselves. So instead of praying and seeking God's wisdom they lashed out at their perceived enemies, forgetting that we do not war against flesh and blood but spiritual wickedness.
After that point, the whole mood of the thread de-evolved and Satan got his momentary victory.
So you offer Bible verses and judge folks external actions and find them lacking?
Do you also offer prayers and question your own motives, before judging theirs?
I don't know everyone's motives in this thread, but I know that Dcon is to have people hear that the gospel is about faith in the finished work of Christ alone and NOT anything people think they can or must do to earn their salvation.
Do you agree or disagree with that belief?
Those who disagree will find and make strife in this thread.for there is no peace found in a false gospel.
Those who agree will find fellowship and acceptance into the Body of Christ.
This doctrine is fundamental to the Christian faith. If you don't know the foundation of your faith, then out of love many here will seek to warn of false gospels and teach you why you should have faith in Christ alone for salvation.
Hi EG
The Mosaic Covenant was conditional.
Also the Edenic Covenant was conditional.
This is interesting, I've Always thought.
Both times, we failed.
The Edenic was the Agreement between God and Adam not to eat of the forbidden fruit.
Adam was the lord of the land God had given him. Everything was his, he had dominion.
All he had to do was obey God and not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
The blessing...... eternal life.
The curse ......... separation from God (Death)
He failed. As the Israelites failed at keeping the commandments even though they were sure they could.
Hey PJ
This is a difficult concept to nail down.
Regarding the heart being pure,I mean. It's pure from day 1, but we keep on sinning. We are pure in the eyes of God.
Do you like this analogy?
Christianity is the only religion in the world where a person could go to hell for stealing a pen,
but end up in heaven after commiting murder.
If you can explain why, you don't have to worry about the heart being pure or not.
The person who stole the pen and is not a Christian cannot go to heaven.
The person who commited murder but repents and comes to a saving knowledge of God, will be saved.
You're right and we are certainly taught both.
I fail to see why we're even discussing works IF we all agree that they're necessary for sanctification.
The problem might be that some here may believe that works actually bring a person to salvation. Personally, I know of no denomination that teaches this.
ONLY God can save.
To CONTINUE to be saved, we must CONTINUE in God's way. Follow Jesus and what He taught.
If we abandon Jesus and His way, does that not put us right back where we started?
