EXEGESIS, EISEGESIS AND "NARCIGESIS?" WHEN THE BIBLE BECOMES ABOUT YOU
When we force the Bible to mean that we are at the center of the story, and when we are taught that every teaching, every command and everything God asks His people to do becomes about our own personal faith journeys, that is what is known as narcissistic eisegesis,
Eisegesis (/ˌaɪsɪˈdʒiːsɪs/) is the process of interpreting text in such a way as to introduce one's own presuppositions, agendas or biases. It is commonly referred to as reading into the text.[1] It is often done to "prove" a pre-held point of concern, and to provide confirmation bias corresponding with the pre-held interpretation and any agendas supported by it.
I think also we can include the misappropriation of Jesus teachings and commands . This is done through not noticing that , yes all the bible is for us ,but not all is to us . I can see that this approach to scripture is where most of the errors occur . From replacement theology to a great many denominations like the Pentecostal variety. Where the book of Acts is taken out of context and is not noticed as a ' transitional ' book .
What are some of the examples you've noticed where some Christians mis apply verses not intended TO them ? Examples where verses are not meant for the Church age for example?

So, this is based on your interpretation of Acts, right?

.....hmm.........

Are you not "reading into" Scripture?

If you feel that I'm reading myself into the book of acts somewhere then let's discuss?

I think I know what you mean. I'm trying to interpret it to see if it applies to me or to different people altogether. The term looks like a tragic affliction rather than a theological error. As a matter of interest do you have a problem with your sight or is you lower case key broken?

The whole " purpose driven life'' thing also.
Basically when you read yourself into the scriptures.

There is the milk of the word and the meat of the word. In my honest opinion the Bible is a complex book and the meat of the word is difficult to digest at times.

It's also about Biblical foundation. We need to know certain prerequisite information before we're ready to understand other things which lead to understanding more things. People read the Bible their whole life and sometimes still don't figure it all out.

If at any point we miss some foundational knowledge it can change the entire trajectory of our understanding and make the end product a false doctrine.

So we have to be careful. Thank you for the reminder.

The simplest thing in the Bible is also the most important and it's that we access the grace of God and forgiveness of all sins through faith in Christ.

I think you are reading your interpretation of Acts and other Books/Epistles concerning "replacement theology."
And, as you appear to be dismissing the concept based on your interpretation, that pretty much means you are reading yourself into Scripture, right?

You would have to give an example where I've done this ? Happy to discuss if thats the case .
