So at church today we had a guest speaker talking about getitng involved. The focus was on missionary work and there are so many opportunities out there.
So here are my questions.

1) short term missiony work... are these paid? say you travel to Mexico for 1or 2 days, who fronts the overhead?
2) missionary jobs - full time staff.. are these paid and if so... what type of comp is it?

In general, short-term missions is voluntary. Long-term missionaries generally work through a denomination or missionary agency and raise support before going abroad.

I have a lot of experience with this since my church does it a lot but yes, you are literally trusting God here to give you food and shelter while you spread the word in whatever country you're going.

Another version is monasticism which is even more hardcore because you give up everything in the world and you give you life to God here and now in the physical.

Oh yeah and in a lot of places where our missionaries go, it's very unstable politically too so it's not safe so your life is also in God's hands.

However none of these options are any good for a family man ... in my view.
Your path, for whoever has a family, is to honor and help your family until the end or until God tells you otherwise in some sort of message from a dream, vision or otherwise.
And if you might have read that link i sent you earlier about blessing of the homes (https://orthodoxwiki.org/Blessing_of_homes), in the Orthodox church, the family is considered to be a small church.

So let's say we go to TJ or Mexico or wherever for 1 day... Do I need to pay or does the church pay? What about food..

I'd like to do something for a short trip and to volunteer my time to support a worthy cause. But I would not be able to contribute time and resources (money) for it.

Have you prayed? It's been my experience that when God sends,God provides.

Missionaries should be called and sent by God. It's not an occupation, it's a calling.

I can speak only for our church. We have had missionaries in the field, local and foreign, for many years. Most are joint funded by the church and the person. We have not sent anyone out of country since Covid19. There is plenty of work here to do in Florida.

Yes.. I was watching a video and it needs to be a Rhema calling to be successful.

Far from being someone who wants to hinder kingdom work, I want to encourage it. But God prepares and equips those He uses. I think it's awesome you want to share the gospel. That said, Moses spent 40 years in the desert preparing to lead God's people. The Apostle Paul was a Christian for 13-14 years before going on his 1st missionary journey.
It's an interesting study to contrast Moses before and after his desert experience. He's very different.

Do any of your missionaries work in Mexico? I've got a 5x10 trailer loaded with food and tools. If I had a children's home or something to go to down there I would start driving tomorrow.

They had a project in Mexico where they were building homes for free there but i think that project is over now.
I can check with my priest but a list of some missionaries are here: https://www.ocmc.org/how-we-serve/missionaries and those areas are a bit stable but i know of a monk who went to Somalia and somehow came back alive after 10 years and is now living and praying in Mt. Athos Greece.

My donation for this quarter is for people during holidays to have food in USA.

I'm not Orthodox, but I can serve with anyone who serves Christ. I'll look into the website, thank you.
