For me and most people I know,
Christmas is about Jesus and the Day....
However,
ALL of the stuff that we do to get ready for the Day is what makes a great Christmas or a poor one to the point we don't even wish to celebrate. And each year my wife and I get a full measure of Joy for Christmas.
We do Christmas club accounts so that we can have plenty of finances to fund our excessive giving....
We have planning meetings that begin in earnest in the Summer.
We search for presents all year long that we think particular family members will enjoy.
Then come the season....
I baked around a thousand cookies (8 varieties) and hand dipped around 1200 chocolate truffles out of fine Belgium chocolate (12 varieties). 12 plates custom gift wrapped given out and treats on platters for 4 different parties.
I baked enough gingerbread houses to make subdivision and had a party for kids to come and decorate them. (I borrowed some because my family doesn't have enough)
We have a new 12-foot Christmas tree that took 3 weeks to assemble and decorate this year. (Bought in the summer so it was the least expensive price I could get it at)
And now....it's been a full and fun Christmas season... we have truly enjoyed ourselves and others. We are exhausted and tired....and looking forward to next year. We hosted 4 parties....went to 3 others.
And now....just the traditional ham dinner and I'm done done.
