Whether it was or not, MT 17:14-23 needs to be understood in the context of MT 28:19-20, JN 13:35 and the entire NT, which indicates that God's will was for Jesus to work miracles as a sign of Messiahship, but also for Messiah to be crucified, and for saving faith in Messiah to be manifested by moving the mountain of love or spiritual healing, not physical miracle-working.
Any doubt, even a modicum, stops anyone from being established in the whole entire truth of God for us the people
Isaiah 7:1-9, God tells this truth
Jesus furthers this truth As soon as the Disciples had a smidgeon of guess work over it, the enemies of God get a hold of you the person

Okay, one anyone, it takes not giving up on one, day getting through any troubles that happen and then go away.

Once any sin is done even over and over again it is done, God chose to forgive us all through Son. That got done since (Reconciled) on that cross once for us all (Hebrews 10:10)(John 19:30. 1:29)
So we can now learn from all mistakes ever made and might make again
EX: those sins we hate now and yet continue in to do them even though we do not want to do them Romans 7
Has any sin left you, and you know it has, and are not worried over it anymore? Yeah, God did that through you and for you to see to only depend on God to get you through it all, in humility
The sexual sin is the biggie for many, Money another, drinking and so forth, even lust in the mind, that are not your thought(s) are planted by God's enemies spiritually
What I am saying, is do not give up on God to get you through it all. You sin again, tell God thank you from within, ask God how to let go of it, you want to overcome it, and not be prideful as have where thought you got it, right?
God had reconciled us all to be born new and not wait belief to see through it
Yes Jesus said that about that kind of evil going on
It takes, not stopping beleif to see it through and leave you, and you have seen other things leave you too, and are no longer a part of you, remaining humble in it. Knowing every time you got any pride over stopping anything, it came back worse at you as if there is no way you can overcome it. Only in the risen Son given one can one. at least this I see in my own experiences of never giving up on God over it all.
God does just love us all, that is the amazing part, "God says My Grace is sufficient for you too"
If anyone has this truth and mis uses it, will not see through it, and seeing through it can take a long time. yet compare that to eternity and it be worth a lifetime of struggles here first
On the earth with suffering and shame, gets hinds feet grown in those that willingly go through it
Hinds feet gets one to skip across the mountains with Father and Son as Won (One)
See The Book of Job, see Job not deny God at all, even through adversities. See Lot do the same, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. It is troublesome here on earth, best to do as David in Psalm 1 in any honest opinion, stand therefore stand in Col 1:21-23
