The man said that when a man and woman consummate, that it's the same as marriage. He used consummate improperly, he was referring to sexual intercourse and I told him marriage is a legally binding contract. Why don't you read

Any christian wedding songs?
Whether convenant or contract...Im more leaning toward it as a vow or oath. As legally binding, I think there is such a thing as being bound. When adam and eve become one flesh the two being one, he and she become 'we'. Also later in the bible it does say the husband has power over the wifes body and vice versa. So they cant really be independent of each other they kinda need to do everything together. So while sexual intercourse is that physical linking of the bodies yes but that will spill over into every aspect of life being a joint enterprise.
In modern marriages I dont really see a lot of that happening maybe people will share a house and children and ocassionally bed and a meal, but often its like the wife has her friends and interests, the husband has his and they have nothing much in common.

Why did you elope to vegas. Would it have been more expensive to do through church. Or was it family issues.
I'm kind of wondering about this whole wedding thing now with all the discussions on gay weddings.
How can it be gay people are suddently all wanting to be married when so many straight couples dont. Is it now cheaper for gay people to marry? What would gay people get out of being married. And whos family name do they take...?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. God defined and prohibited incest at a later time, but he never indicated that a marriage was invalid without a government sponsored (or even church sponsored) marriage certificate. According to the "rape" laws in the Old Testament, where a man "rapes" a virgin (I believe it is implied consentual sexual relations outside of marriage), the man is obligated to take the virgin as his wife and never divorce her, which reinforces the belief that sex is marriage.
The room was for 5 days but we only paid for 2 as part of an agreement to sit through a time-share presentation (we did not buy). Even then, most hotels on the strip are usually modestly priced. We paid $150 for the 2 nights. Food is cheap, about $150 for 5 days. Airfare, round-trip from Tampa to Las Vegas was about $800, Paying the minister was up to us so we gave him $100. We didn't gamble much but still came out about $75 ahead. We rented a car but you really don't need a car if you stay on the strip. Most hotels offer a free shuttle from the airport and to the airport. The strip is about a mile long with a monorail running through it. Not sure of the cost but it is probably $5 or less per day. There are also cabs and busses that will take you to Fremont Street which is a street that is covered and there are numerous casinos there also. The atmosphere is very festive there with street performers and music.
Regarding the gay people, not sure what the advantage is as I don't believe you get an extra exemption on your US income tax form. Seems to me it would be an unnecessary financial and legal hassle if the marriage ended in divorced. I'm not sure all states would recognize such a marriage either but I could be wrong about this. The family name thing is interesting but I am surmising that most couples would chose to retain their own last name but of course, they legally change their last name if they so choose.
We decided to elope to Las Vegas because we both have a sense of adventure and it seemed very romantic. There is no waiting period once you get the license at the county office which is located about 1 mile from the strip. The cost at the time in 2014 was $60. As we had both been previously married and both at the age of 59 there were no family issues to resolve and no need for a long drawn out process in planning the wedding.
You reach a certain point in life where you either know what you want or don't. Our engagement period lasted 2 months after having known each other about 4 months. Makes no sense at all to waste precious months or years in deciding whether or not you really want to spend the rest of your life with the one of your heart's desire. We both knew what we wanted and we went for it.
In my marriage we are each other's best friend and share a lot of the same interests. What you have described is probably typical though in a lot of marriages.
Hmm ok i dont know if we have equivalent places to elope in nz. Although Rotorua is sometimes called 'roto-vegas' but it doesnt have heaps of casinos.
Most people from overseas elope TO nz.
A lot of nzers decide to get married in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands which has wedding package deals. Nice setting but it would only be for those who could afford it and not want many guests.
Does it matter WHERE you marry though. I heard some people want to marry on cruise ships, but actually those marriages arent officially recognised cos they are on international waters.
The friend I know wants to marry in her anglican church, its just her fiance thats holding out. Shes spoken of him as her fiance for years. Maybe he will turn a corner, i dont know, apparently he is a pastors son. I heard minsiters sons and daughters can be a rebellious lot and not want anything to do with church. But he moved to nz from south africa to get away from family and start a new life, as so many migrants do.
I just know many people who moved to nz to marry and it didnt work out, so now they marooned on this land by them selves. Thats the thing with international marriages. People do it for the adventure but so many times it only works for the first couple of years and then the cultural differences get too much.
Made me think of Ruth thats what you need to embrace, give up your homeland and say your people will be my people and your God will be my God, and were you are buried I will be buried. Although she said this to Naomi her mother in law...not to Boaz, its like she made a commitment and definite decision. No going back to Moab.
People that like to 'keep their options open' or are just wishy washy about their partners. i cant really respect. i just feel like they only with them for as long as they can benefit and when someone else or another opportunity comes along they will just split. Thats why am skeptical of people that are boyfriend and girlfriend from different countries. Or maybe im just being judgemental, cos actually its better these days to be single. Too much drama with unequally yoked married couples Im like no thanKs! I dont want to know your marriage problems...you sort it out. You're the ones who married each other!

I think it is a kinda coming of age rite, they have not been out of the closet for long and they are celebrating their "rites" or rights!! It is still sort of new, for this to happen so they are pushing it for all it is worth, giddy with excitement at what they have accomplished. If they take their partners name I imagine it would be the dominant one.
So can we expect a slew of divorces in years to come. Or maybe they will want to start practicing polygamy and legalise that too.
I imagine that to be true, and as long as man is walking in the carnal mindset he will keep pushing the envelope!!
