Locking doors

Do you lock your car at night?
Or lock the house doors even though you are inside?

Are you fearful of burglars in your neighbourhood, or have you ever been burgled. Do you lock your doors when you park in the church carpark, even though theres nothing IN your car to steal.

Do you have a gate or security system? Are you the watchman of your house or is there a dog or camera that does that.

Just wondering.
I think locking doors while you are inside the house is a bit over the top personally. But maybe its normal for some people to live in a fortress?

My doors are locked at all times. Living on this street, there have been many break-ins of my building. I NEVER EVER go out somewhere and leave my door unlocked, unless I'm on the front porch.

My mind tells me I am a bit too careful. Then I read news and other stats n such....................

crazy happens all the time, and those who have fallen victim to crazy never thought it would
happen to them.
Or am I crazy for thinking? uh ...........
My deadbolt couldnt stop someone that is determined to break in, but certainly would slow them
down long enough for lead poisoning to deliver the fatal blow.

Yes I live in a apartment and use my three bolts/locks, plus use a door stick. I lock the door when leaving just for a few seconds, such as going to the trash chute. I also live in a secure building meaning I need a key to get in.

My apt/street is safe.

I definitely make sure my house doors are locked....especially at night. I don't want some psycho killer coming in and killing the crap out of me. Or maybe I just watch too many movies. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The evil in this world is increasing and we are charged to care for our own.

No security alarms, but IF I lived in a high crime area, I would have them.

Keeping ourselves safe is a good thing to practice. And you are right.... there is evil in this world and we can't assume it won't reach us. People can be unpredictable and taking care of ourselves should be a priority.

Sorry it may seem a silly question. But just want to know.

People are more likely to smash a window or break in if a door is locked then if it was just unlocked or open. Im thinking of cars. But in general I dont leave valuable things in my car.

We have to assume it can happen to us. We shouldn't have to think that way, but we do. More so now than what it used to be.

My brother had the copper pipes of his home stolen and that was during the day. Nobody needed to 'break in' they just stole them from the outside of the house.

my other brother left his car, locked in the driveway and his camera he had inside was taken. I would not have left my camera in the car.

I had this car alarm that was already installed in the car when I bought it but was so annoying cos it malfunctioned and would go off everytime I wanted to get in, and I had the keys!

So in the end i got rid of it. I just lock my door and always keep my keys. If anybody wanted to take anything they wouldnt find much! Maybe some old clothes and buckets I use for compost. I dont keep cash in the car, or valuable things. I even leave the windows open cos it gets stuffy.

I do lock my bike if Im going to be away from it out of sight.

I dont lock the house if Im inside it because I need to get in and out usually. I keep the gate closed though cos we have a chicken and dont want dogs getting in although sometimes she crosses the road by herself and flies over the fence. Dogs usually dont jump fences or open gates. But if they see it wide open they will go for it cos thats how one chicken got killed. Dad was careless and the neighbours left their gate open too.

I think having a fortress mentality isnt always good because you need to provide some openings for people, but depends on who you let in and out of your life. I dont like door to door sales people but then people let in all sorts of scammy advertising by watching tv right in their living rooms.

Two true home invasion stories that happened in my town recently..

An elderly woman was home alone when 2 strangers walked into her house, without knocking and proceeded to put together a baby crib. When the woman asked who they were and why they were there, they said "we're here for the baby". The woman told them they had the wrong house and that there was no baby there. They acted very shifty, then got in their car and left.

Another woman woke up in the middle of the night and saw another woman coming down from her attic. The cops were called, the woman in the attic acted completely calm, like being in someone's attic was normal.

IMO it's futile to lock house or car doors. If someone wants IN, they'll do anything to get in.

They took the pipes to strip the copper off them. Some businesses pay so much per pound for copper. My neighbor Barbara strips any appliances she finds outside for their copper..

well thats always the risk if you have anything valuable on display. People take plants...if people really want to take things they could just ask to have a cutting they dont have to steal.
I work in a library so you dont actually have to take things you borrow books and then bring them back after youve read them. Some people might not understand that concept.

Thats weird, yea. The only ones that get away with walking in my house without knocking is the cat and chicken and even then the chicken gets shooed away.

most Family members know to knock or call first. I dont like when people barge into my room but some family members think its ok to do that. Putting up boundaries is hard when youve not had any to begin with.

Ive also had some taller/older people just leap right over mine. Im speaking spiritually.
