Job 29
seems like job is reminiscing of the days before this happened to him
Job remembered his days and said
Verse 3 : In those days, God was my guide. He was like a lamp that shone for me in a dark place also verse 12-17 talk about his deeds eg .he lived righoutsly and helped the poor ( similarly in Matthew 5:16) definitely everyone was pleased with Job and was respected in home and among his people and even among his friends ,
but everything changed ..his kids are no more ,his wife wants him to curse God and friends blame Job for being unrighteous and may be called him fake .
like the way we see now…good days everyone gets closer and bad days everyone departs from you.
Job reminisces on the days before all this happened to him, which I think is really important to do when someone is in the midst of troubles - to remember how good God is and keep the faith and focus on the good things. Job said, "I thought, ‘I will die in my own house, my days as numerous as the grains of sand. My roots will reach to the water, and the dew will lie all night on my branches. My glory will not fade; the bow will be ever new in my hand." in verses 18-20, which makes me remember 1 Corinthians 10:12 that says, "So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!" Sometimes when things are going good, it's easy to get too comfortable and let our guard down. It's wise to study God's word daily and be on alert/keep watch. Not that Job wasn't, but it seems like he sorta thought he was untouchable.
