Jesus is God, so what did He mean in John 17:3 and 20:17?

Bonus Question: How can He be God and the Son of God?

The answers to these questions are quite simple...if you understand the dual nature of Christ.

Prior to his incarnation, Jesus was fully God.

During his incarnation, Jesus also became a man.

Why?

Because a man, Adam, had lost everything through his disobedience, and another man, Jesus, had to get it back by inheritance through his obedience.

During his incarnation, or when "the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1:14), or in his humanity, Jesus was the Son of God (and he still is), and God was his Father (and he still is) for the reason which I just described.

While on earth, Jesus prayed:

Jhn 17:5
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Jesus had glory with the Father before the world was because he was fully God himself.

Now, after his incarnation, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and glorification, he has been restored to that former glory, but now as one who is both God and man.

The man part is of utmost importance to us. In other words, we, as men or women, can only be made "joint-heirs with Christ" (Romans 8:17) because of what Jesus has inherited as a man.

Anyhow, this is the correct answer to your questions.

Sounds like modalism or maybe polytheism.

When discussing the Trinity there is only a very narrow way to do so without going beyond what is written.
BUT
We have a LOT of people who wish to describe it in some new fashion.
(Including St Patrick)
And by doing so go beyond what is written.

They surely are very different if not opposites.

Maybe you can explain why you offer those two.... I have a mental block or somethin?

Watch the video above with St Patrick and the two little guys. It should explain things very well. It's humorous as well.

It literally is the BEST explanation for the Trinity and the various wrong descriptions of the Trinity. It's under 5 minutes long too.

He meant that the Father is the only true God.

Jesus is called God in the Bible without a doubt: Hebrews 1:8-12. You don't have to agree but many do that John 1:1 Jesus is referred to as the "Word" who was God, and with God. Thomas calls Him God.

There is no issue with being calle the son of God and God, Jesus is also called the everlasting Father in Isaiah 9:6, these are titles.

God Father, and Son Are One. How?
The exact image of Dad, here on earth in flesh and blood to redeem us in Father's Spirit and Truth for us all, to believe he first in his one time willing death alone took away sin from daddy's sight. Romans 12
Here on earth in flesh and blood, born of woman, not man. To die once for us all to get seen from daddy as reconciled as is the message in 2 Cor 5:16-20. Noting this in verse 16, we once knew him in the flesh, today no more. So for anyone to give me or me give anyone precedence over anything is not well for me, being born new in the risen Son, done by Father imputing this in each person that sincerely believes, gets to eventually see it and be amazed in it, at least me, I to this day, do not deserve to ever be given this amazing news life in Spirit, dead to flesh
Read Romans 8:1-3, now held alive as in Acts 17:28 to see it all sin ever since that one time willing death once for us all, condemned all sin the first born flesh of humans from man and woman having sex. Be born anew freely given from Father, thank you.
Then born new by Father once anyone will not quit belief to see, gets to eventually see, like I see Job stood in belief all the way through it all, and had to learn much along the way also
I see God sees us all as are like a Job. And evil says oh yeah, will these people still praise you, once go through troubles too? will you? I have so far, and will not quit
I see to not deny God. I also see the feeling to want to, when hurt over anything.
Therefore, will we stand in belief all the way to death too. As Jesus did that willingly once for us all to get given new life in his resurrected life in Father's Spirit and Truth, the Holy Spirit

In the interrelationship between the Father and Son, this isn't God vs not God and/or inferior vs inferior.

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit as well as the Father.

Jesus is called the Alpha and Omega in Revelation. Term used for the Father.

Jesus said there is none greater than John the Baptist, then put Himself above the disciples.

Jesus forgave sin of those who had not directly offended Him..in the 3rd person. That's having power over sin itself.

So you may say this is all things given Him by the Father.

Well..look at how agency was viewed then and you'll see Jesus is 'as the Father Himself '

He said the Father is 'greater than I' and then ascended to equal position as the Father... one with the Father.

This interrelationship isn't like one seperate being to another..it's more like the head talking to the body.

The two as One (Won)
I see this
Father made a perfect Son through the Virgin Mary in the tribe of Judah. Was sent as the Heir to save us all. Those that choose willing belief to Father through the death willing death for us get his resurrected life given them, to work in love and mercy through us, at least me thanks for your post wattie
