We are disgusting eternal security. You quote a passage that says nothing about salvation or eternal life.

Abiding in the vine is fellowship, not salvation.
Don't misapply a parable about fellowship and chastisement.
 
well I don't see it that way. I see a branch that no longer produces fruit and is cast into the fire. Just like a person who is saved and begins producing fruit and then the fruit withers and is no longer productive and gets chopped off the vine and burned in the fire. I have done this with my own fruit trees, my apple tree had a branch gave some apples but some reason it withered and gave no more apples so I chopped it of and burned it. I did however use to smoke a pork shoulder and it was good.

Clear from the Bible. OK, quote me a verse where "lose salvation" occurs (an oxymoron).

You need to prove your point, and make sure your verse says salvation or eternal life. No making things up like "push the Lord aside in your soul" -- I don't recall reading that.

And explain to me how a child of God stops being a child of God -- also how you can stop being the child of your human parents.

Set aside the "what about this" and "what about that" and focus on the scripture on topic, stuff like:

I give them eternal life and they shall never perish.

How bout giving us a verse that says:

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and He will give you a shot at being saved; but you'd better mind your p's and q's.

or I give them indefinite life and they might perish.

My question for those of you willing to admit the bible has more scriptures then support your one side, what do you do with the scriptures that support the opposite? If you actually are willing to concede that there are verses in support of both sides. Which there obviously are, you cannot just say since you cannot reconcile them they aren't there, which I am seeing plenty of in this thread.

I don't see any contradiction at all. It's just hard to word things in a way that cannot be attacked. If the passage reads

[SUP]28 [/SUP]And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

He is stating quite clearly that they shall never perish because they are His sheep and they know and follow Him.

The security is that He will hold them up, He will remember their sin no more, He has washed their robes white and NOTHING on the planet can get between Him and His sheep (that follow Him)

it isn't contradictory.

Kerry, if you are going to disgust the theory of losing salvation (oxymoron),
at least use passages that say "salvation" and "eternal life."

Unless you can find one that says,

I give them indefinite life and they may perish.

I give them eternal life and they shall never perish.
 
I read the book of Hezekiah and wish I didn't. Try another one. Where is my smiter I know its here somewhere.

Does it mean that now I'm saved I can do whatever I want? IF not, then what is the point of getting so riled up about it?
Are you fearful of losing it? Like those who struggle with homosexuality so rile against homosexuality? Again - what is the point?

You can't trust the Lord Jesus with your eternal destiny without trusting Him with your eternal destiny.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved. No ifs, ands, or buts.

If one is tired, one needs to go to the Savior for rest.

What about this? What about that? What about the other? What about those who struggle with gluttony and struggle to get into their jeans?

What about focusing on scripture which talks about salvation and eternal life.

I give them eternal life and they shall never perish.

The silly argument will go on for as long as you are both willing to butt heads. You're not going to convince him, he's not going to convince you, but you're both going to groundhog-day this thing for how long? I was about to drag out the dead-horse jpg. Make your case for those who are reading along, then yield the floor and let the blowhards wear themselves out. As if they ever will, eh?

With your ruler you're going to be measured, and, uhm, you're going to fall a little short on this one Atwood. I mean, I understand it, I was the same way when I came on, but I learned it was wrong. In the end we're all going to stand before the Throne of God having a good laugh about such foolishness. So as Viper said, in the end let's remember we're still on the same team.
