Hey Everyone!

Someone in my family gives my parents a monthly K (Keurig)-cup coffee subscription box every Christmas. Sometimes I'm over at their place when their latest box arrives, and opening it really does feel like Christmas every month. The box is always a "variety pack," and they never know what flavors, brews, or which company's goods they are going to get each time.

The last time I was able to watch the eagerly-anticipated opening of the monthly coffee box, I had to slightly snort to myself because, while yes, "TECHNICALLY" they received selections from about 4 different companies... Every. Single. Company. sent a version of their own "Breakfast Blend" -- so pretty much HALF THE BOX was of "breakfast blends."

To me, that is NOT variety.

Rather, I see it as more like getting a sample box of paints from a variety of different paint companies -- and every. one. of them sends you a sample of their version of "white," so half the box is just white paint.

Or how about an "ice cream sampler" -- and it's ALL vanilla, but from different companies.

Now I'm certainly not saying there's anything wrong with this. I'm sure many people love "Breakfast Blend" coffee, white paint, and vanilla ice cream. But I'm a flavored coffee, brightly colored paint, and variety of ice creams kinda gal, so "Breakfast Blends" just don't pique my percolator, personally.

And so, I'm making the bold (roasted) statement, at the risk of having my caffeine fix canceled by coffee lovers everywhere, that "Breakfast Blend" coffee is really just the white paint/vanilla version of coffee -- a boring staple that everyone offers because it's just expected, but never offers anything exciting or new.

* What thinks you?

* Is Breakfast Blend coffee REALLY just the white paint of coffee?

* Do YOU like breakfast blends?

* Which company has the best-tasting version of Breakfast Blend? (You know, sort of like asking who makes the best vanilla ice cream, or who makes the best white paint.) :p

* Why do you supposed it's called "Breakfast Blend" anyway? What makes it different from any other blend, and why is this blend above all others deemed appropriate to drink at breakfast?

If you're like me and planning to stage a Roasted Rebellion against the bromidic blandness of "Breakfast Blends," tell us what other blends and flavors put the pep into your morning step instead!

i've looked at some that give breakdowns and it seemed they tended to have a little more caffeine and were a little lighter roast.
Thanks

Yeah, breakfast blend probably is the vanilla of all coffees. Locally, Kroger and Aldis have decent breakfast blend coffees. I think they are actually a light medium roast meaning they will have a little more caffeine than the typical medium roast. Maybe that's why they are called breakfast blend cause they have a little extra kick to start your mornings? 🤔

I've seen Donut blend, adventure blend, breakfast blend, and so on. They all seemed to taste about the same though.

I don't drink coffee (can I still respond...am I breaking the rules?!) But I come from a family that ADORES coffee, addicted is an understatement. They scoff at breakfast blends, only the most bold of coffees will do. While I don't have a personal opinion on the matter, I have heard that breakfast blends are indeed the vanilla and white paint of coffees.

Normally I give them all coffee for Christmas but it took me a while to realize that any flavored or breakfast blend types of coffees were just not allowed lol.

I like my coffee strong and without frills.

My grandfather would tell the waitress to bring him the strongest coffee she had, and two packs of instant Sanka.

Same, mostly. My family are all inveterate coffee drinkers.

Some of them are not that picky though. My uncle Fred drinks whatever coffee his wife picked up on sale, as long as it's not decaf.

My dad, now, he's a different story. He is quite picky about his coffees. When he visits somebody else he will usually take cream in his coffee, only because it is substandard coffee and needs the help. At home he doesn't take cream because it is his approved kind of coffee, brewed in his approved manner. And yes, he has a dim view of breakfast blends in general.
