When I fist watched this movie back in the '80s, it seemed like a silly parody. However, now it actually seems like a more honest characterization of the attitudes that have crept into the "church."

Notice the audience, they seem to be hanging on his every word. Why does he even have an audience? Because he's preaching his nonsense with conviction. This is how "super" preachers get followers today. What they say may contradict scripture at every turn, but boy do they make it sound convincing.

It's called tickling their ears..............shoot, Sunday morning TV is FULL of such people spewing their 'feel good" gospel to any and all they can fool long enough to get as much of their money as they can
