.
I was sent to an employee-relations class some years ago. They talked quite
a bit about something called core values. Simply put, these are premises,
principles, and precepts that define us, viz: core values are directly related
to our self image so it's no surprise that people take it personal and become
defensive when their opinions about certain things are questioned.
The word "repent" is common in the Bible --it basically means is to change
one's mind, i.e. to think differently about this and that.
Human nature resists repentance because the process requires folks to
reinvent themselves by first invalidating some of their long-held core values
and then adopting new ones in their place. Folks who resist repentance to
the death are sometimes called stiff-necked. (cf. Zech 7:11)
Anyway; point being: there are flat earthers and concave hollow earthers at
large that are in a bit of a pickle. The space age has shot their science to
shreds but they can't give it up without undergoing severe damage to the
way they view themselves, i.e. their self image.
So, when Christians encounter flat earthers and concave hollow earthers, I
highly recommend conducting themselves in accord with the instructions
given at 2Tim 2:24-26.
Also, seeing as Christians are a special order of priests (Rev 1:6) then I also
recommend exercising the kind of sympathy spoken of by Heb 5:2.
In other words; avoid ad hominems and thoughtless remarks about their IQ,
instead, offer your thoughts in a scholarly manner and give them ample
time to think things over before deciding whether to reinvent themselves.
This is a really good opportunity to practice some of that patience Christians
are always talking about.
