so you gained your approval of total disrespect for the spirit of prophecy, then you gained more confidence in you next barrage of insults after this post.

The scriptures assure me that Christ is there for me, so why do I need a personal prophecy. Honestly, the times I've encountered these so-called prophetic words, they seemed like an illegitimate attempt to take the place of Christ in the life of the person being prophesied over. The people doing this this seem to thrive off of people who lack direction or have difficulty making decisions for themselves; and frankly it's a little creepy. Instead of telling people "the Lord told me to tell you this," we should encourage them rely more on Jesus.

Prophecy is one of the spiritual gifts; which, by the way, you do not have as consistently displayed in numerous misquotes from scripture, composite Bible twisting and lack of credibility and responsibility for doing so. For that type of poo dah you are right. I have less than zero respect for your apparent total lack of respect for Scripture first of all and secondly, for your attitude to everyone in this forum by pretending to be something that you are not.
Actually, yes, I am pretty, but that is neither here nor there.
No thanks, my trust is in God's word. I'll take my advice from Him, not some guy on the internet.

This so called personal prophecy business has been going on for several decades. I do think there are times when a person may have a 'word' for another, such as we see in the book of Acts with the word the prophet Agabus gave to Paul. That word was even demonstrated by Agabus taking Pauls belt and using it to demonstrate that Paul would be taken against his will if he went to Rome.
Now as for the lineup at the front of the church that is seen far too often, that, IMO, is NOT how the gift is to be used. People will line up to receive a 'word' from God and the speaker of the evening or event, will go to each person and give them a 'word' supposedly from God.
I've actually participated in that myself some years back....as one who was wanting that word. I completely and utterly disown doing so, wish I have never participated and would advise everyone to enquire of God rather than some person who is misusing a spiritual gift and fooling people. (pass the collection plate)
Demons are perfectly capable of speaking through the lips of someone who has given themself over to playing at being a prophet or seer or even giving a word of knowledge and people, let's face it, are easily flattered and basically, that is what is going on.
I have seen some pretty scary things happen when people take these words and live by them. You do not want to that.

Here is a great example of false prophecy given...by a lying spirit that GOD sent...to king Ahab. People need to wake up and see and understand that God Himself participated in the delusion by sending a lying spirit to the 400 hundred false prophets Ahab had in his court.
I sure hope people see this! If you participate and trust in and rely on or in false prophets (which are actually easy to spot once you start to ingest the truth) you are setting yourself up for deception and foolhardy decisions that can literally ruin your life!

Deuteronomy 18 offers what seems like a straightforward test to distinguish false prophets from true prophets:

Not brought up in. But yeah. It was all new to me and I thought everything was so spiritual. Well, it sure was...but not THE Spirit.

I have heard some give what I think was a legit word from God but they do not know when to stop and run into 'overtime' and start adding to what was real.
29Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. 30And if a revelation comes to someone who is seated, the first speaker should stop. 31For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. 32The spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. 33For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace—as in all the churches of the saints.
so, what do we make out of that?
What does 1 Corinthians 14:32 mean?
Perhaps some in Corinth misunderstood how spiritual gifts like speaking in tongues or prophecy worked. They may have thought that those with these gifts were taken over by the Holy Spirit and lost control of themselves, speaking in an unknown language in a frenzy or speaking a revelation from God in a kind of trance. Some of the idol worship in Greek cities like Corinth involved similar behavior: worshippers seemingly becoming possessed by the gods they served, ranting and moving in a frenzy.
Paul has made it clear that this is not how spiritual gifts work in the Christian church. He has instructed those who speak in tongues not to do so if they are not chosen to contribute to the service, or if nobody is available to interpret what they say. He has commanded those with the gift of prophecy to stop talking if someone else receives a revelation from God.
Now Paul puts it in plain language: The "spirits of prophets are subject to prophets." By this he means that the Holy Spirit does not "take over" a person's spirit to the point where that person loses restraint. The opposite is true—one of the nine characteristics of the fruit of the Holy Spirit listed by Paul in Galatians 5:22–23 is self-control. Anyone legitimately expressing a spiritual gift can always decide when and how to start or stop expressing that gift. source
As we are not perfect but rather a work in progress, so we do not actually receive perfect words from God and guess what? HE KNOWS THIS!!! And that is one reason why we should not ever ever ever look to one person who presents in a way that seems to dictate that they are to be followed as a 'prophet of God'.
Each Christian now has the Holy Spirit within as we do not need ANY Old Testament prophet types who claim authority over others by stating they are a prophet. Do not give your freedom in Christ away to these bogus men/women. They are not of God.
If you are familiar with the prophets in the OT, you know that God chose men who would relay His word as best they could, guided by His Spirit. Those who actually do have a prophetic gift, are not swift to use it, do not run around condemning others and they will not tell you they hear word for word from God what to say or do. Can God speak directly into a person's mind? Yes He can and sometimes does but God does not use automatic writing to convey a message as can be seen in Paul's instructions to the Corinthians church.

Yup pretty bad when the sin is so public . Defend the misusing of God's gifts if you wish. The church needs to grow a back bone.As bad as airing it in the public ?
