You have to interpret 1 John 3:9 in light of the above passage. John means we don't make a habit of sinning; our life is no longer characterized by sin. To say it's impossible for a Christian to sin not only contradicts scripture but is a false doctrine that can lead people astray.
The reason no one who is born of God will continue to sin is because the person will be filled with the Holy Spirit who fills his heart with divine love. When all thoughts and actions are motivated by this love, we are obeying the Spirit of the Law given by Jesus which is to love God first and everyone else second. You are not sinning when your motivation is love. see 1 Cor 13: 1-13
Perhaps it might be said that, although we will become distracted and err at times, a true Christian will not live in a state of rebellion against God. What we feel and do after we realize we have erred tells the story. God sees the heart and hears the prayer of repentance.
It depends on what you mean by "continue." If you mean a person will no longer continue to sin as a regular practice, I agree. If you mean they will eventually stop sinning completely and become sinless, I totally disagree.
Out of curiosity, where does 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 say that perfect love eliminates sin from a person's life? I agree love is the highest thing we should strive for, but I don't see anything in this passage that says perfect love cast out sin.

I sort-of-kind-of agree about your disagree, but the question might be whether or not we want to call every Christian who has fallen short of absolute perfection a "sinner". We all started out as sinners, but we have become new creatures in Christ.
I reject your works driven righteousness and salvation heresies in total. You can not save yourself.
The way i like to put it is that sin should be very rare in the believers life, but we have an advocate that over loves us!
Who says that you can save yourself? What I'm saying is that if you define works as man made , then it won't do you any good. But if works is initiated by God, then you are led by the Holy Spirit. Your works can't save you. You are already saved if you are filled with the Holy Spirit and are led by Him.

I was just reading Colossians 1. It's worth studying as to how we are called to strive to be perfect, that we may be presented blameless before Christ. We may not fully attain that goal in this life, but in obedience to God, we must strive to. God Bless

the list is so long here of those who are of God, our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, who walked with God but were very human.
it's impossible to never sin again. oh i wish it was possible. but the moment i am done wrong i am not immediately thinking [God forgive them]! oh no, i am thinking WRATH and VENGEANCE! until i now have to repent for something someone else did to me!
but that does not remove my status of being Saved. it just means i will always have areas i am trying to overcome by killing my flesh daily.
