So, this interaction between Jesus and the sons of Zebedee right after he explains that he is going to be delivered over to die; additionally we understand that this cup that Jesus drinks is what leads him into his death- and he seems to continue on this point, even after these zealous disciples make their bold; but perhaps inappropriate request.

And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire. And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you? They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory. But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.

He said that they would also be immersed in this baptism that he is baptized with; so what is this baptism he is talking about here; which he clearly associates with his death, and which He was also immersed in at this time?

The cross of Jesus is also the cross of all who believe. "I am crucified with Christ............." is one of the best known verses in the Bible. Not so many realise what it means in experience.

Romans 6:4
"We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life."

This is the real meaning of baptism by immersion. What do you do with a dead body? You bury it. The good news for believers is that we are raised again with Christ to new life.

Lord Jesus faced the trial of His life in the Garden of Gethsemane. It was not the illegal trial conducted by the authorities. It was the clash of the will of Jesus, in His humanity and the will of God that Lord Jesus should suffer death on the cross. Every believer who seeks to be truly spiritual will face that dilemma. God will place His finger on the thing most precious to you and ask you to choose, self will, or God's will. Some us who are full of ideas and ambitions face that choice more often. But if we will give up our "idol", God will bring us into a deeper walk with Him.

There is also the daily cross. Our will and God's will clash often, but on less important things to us. This is the "dying daily" that God requires of us. For example, God required me to give up competitive table tennis. I was starting to improve, practicing more and getting more aggressive. God sees what we do not. As it happens, where I live now we have a games area including table tennis. I have a "hit and giggle" time with my wife once a week. I watch myself like a hawk as I don't want to fall into the snare again.

Father's will, not ours, willing to be dead, even though alive, Romans 6:12
Jesus went to death willingly, will we. Will we even stop arguing when others berate us or are upset at us, whether right or wrong, does it really matter?
Not my will Father, your will be done, and so it is done, John 19:30, then the resurrection.
God wanting patiently, there is no impatience in Heaven. God works with us all, we hopefully see to agree and accept the rain that falls, troubles good or bad to learn from, see the quitting complaining to be content in all things happening good or bad presently, putting what is behind, behind, thanks Father for this present presently in love to his all, even whenever not understanding the mystery
Father knows best

It is by means of the Holy Spirit's baptism that people become unified with
Christ; and it's accomplished by drinking rather than bathing.

1Cor 12:13 . . For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--
whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free --and we were all given the one Spirit
to drink.

That verse probably reflects John 7:37-38 wherein Jesus spoke of drinking
living water, which is likely the very same beverage that Jesus offered the
woman by the well in John 4:10-14, which, again, is for drinking rather than
bathing.

amen if we are buried with him like this in death , we shall also be raised up with him in his resurrection. Which is why we aren’t only submerged beneath the water in his name but we are also raised back up from the water to our new identity

“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:27-29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭17:5-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:36-38‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”

those silly apostles baptizing people in “water” using Jesus name , promising them remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Ghost…..

To give us new life in his risen Life, given from Father to love all in the same way as is done by him first going to a willing flesh death for us to agree and be as if dead to our first birth for the second birth to take over, his risen life. Only if one, anyone remains willing, will this be from God who did it and does it by Love, for us all, Which God's love is the only way to overcome evil still, thank you. That is what Jesus meant to me when he yelled it is finished John 19:30, then risen and seen as risen by over 500 witnesses as in 1 Cor 15 reveals to me, the truth is he his risen where new life forms in us each personally, this gets given to us by Father, Amen!
Who seals us on the very first day anyone chooses top believe, gets revealed God just loves us all, and then a willing change happens and we just love all also, at least me thanks Grace ambassador, I have read through Chapter 5 on dispensationalism and Thank you for sharing

Jesus was baptised by immersion in water by John the Baptist.

Jesus was doing this as an example, a fulfillment of prophecy.

Not a salvation think I think at first thought for the disciples. A figure of already having conversion.

If it is actually about salvation itself.. then it may be about Jesus having the Holy Spirit descending like a dove on Him..but that wasn't the Holy Spirit coming to be inside Jesus..but a snapshot of the Trinity in action
