Until husbands and fathers demonstrate the leadership in the home that they are expected to show there will be this problem in the family and consequently the church. Too many fathers have failed to be the Spiritual leader in the home. Fathers must fulfill their responsibility to be teaching Gods word to the family.

We are seeing the result of the culture influencing the church instead of the church resisting modern culture and teaching the righteousness of Christ. Church teaches the society what is right not the other way around.

I agree with this.

But I feel even this is only a symptom of deeper things.

What can we do to encourage a radical change in the sexual morality in the church as it pertains to young... and older... people keeping their virginity before marriage, marital fidelity, remaining married, etc.?

What I mean is this: ask the person directly, "Have you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour?" (or something similar). If the answer is 'No' then we shouldn't expect them to act consistently with the truth, but rather tell them the gospel. We don't make the decision as to whether they are, in fact, saved; that is up to God. However, we are given wisdom and discernment for a reason. In 1 Corinthians, Paul rebukes the church for tolerating a man who was sleeping with his stepmother, when the proper response would be to rebuke and exclude him. Basically Paul is saying, "Think for yourselves; is this appropriate?" We should not expect the unsaved to to act like they are saved, but we can expect (word chosen carefully) that those who claim to be Christians act like it, at least on significant issues.
Yeah like that , only in my way... I can always tell by the way people behave...

I lost my virginity in the 80's and was a slut.... that had nothing to do with who was President or trump... When I got married I was a Biblical wife, my husband had an affair and wanted to leave the marriage. I lived with a man after... did not last... Have not lived with a man or had sex since July 2011... Tell you the truth it is about making G-d well G-d!!! I asked Him to remove my sexual desire unless He marries again and finding my identity in Him....

See, even though I had been Saved since 1991 several years ago sitting in a Kroger parking lot I finally said Lord I know you are suppose to fil me but you don't … Please fill me... And in that moment He did!!!!

I don't know why I always need a man to make me feel whole before... it does not matter... But G-d has made me whole... and people are missing that personal relationship with the ONLY ONE THAT COUNTS G-D!!!!

When God created sex it was one of the first things God did for humans, giving it to Adam and Eve. It had a purpose and it was beautiful. Adam was made into two people and sex made them one. That is the first marriage and we are to follow it.

It is even the basis of nations, for families unite to towns that unite to counties that unite to nations. Tear apart the foundation of our society by taking away the meaning of sex and undermining family and the ruin can be terrible.

Any study of society tells us that when our family is damaged (as it is now) the children often become criminals. Our old people are shoved into group homes run by impersonal group rules. Government takes over what God gave families to do and government control results in life that Hitler patterned for us. It is impossible for government to take the place of family.

Sex even looses its ecstasy when it is used in ways God did not create it for. You can't become one with someone who isn't family, nor can you become one with two people.

The bible doesnt even include this "sex before marriage". Fornication can only be done if u already have a husband. Same with adultery.
How about we have a change of traditional teaching and go back into the bible.

Now I dont believe teens should just give themselves away like a tissue. In that way the church is failing to teach woman and men on their self worth and soul ties. Show them what bad soul ties do in the bible. Salomon, David, Samson, Abraham,....
Yet theres only the "dont do it" over safety and self worth.
What kept me waiting for a long time was the idea that Im like a diamond and not a tissue, used a few times and then thrown away.
Plus falling in love is a bad game. You might get to a guy that rapes you.
That is always forgotten!
Ill stop ranting

In the Old Testament, if a man married a woman, paid the bride price for virgins, and found out she wasn't, she could be stoned to death for playing the harlot-- fornication.

When we read that stoning was a punishment for something we accept as normal today, we think of how primitive people were under those laws. They had no jails at that time, and stoning had so many laws regulating it that it was seldom done. The laws reflected how God looks at what we do. In God's eyes it is very serious when we misuse what God has given us. We learn from this that something earning stoning wrecks the world we live in.

To change the church, you and I and our neighbor has to realize that sex is a gift of God we are to delight in but it must be used as God created it to be used. Misusing it wrecks life, people, and nations.

That is not what I said. You were talking about the American decline of chastity . I was saying that maybe we should'nt have the" president" going around saying that he can "go around doing this to random women" because he is rich,, That's all...
Wonder what you've said that you'll give account for?

I live my life KNOWING that GOD listens to every word uttered out of my mouth... What gets me is how this behavior is acceptable to anyone with a daughter, or wife. I can look at myself in the mirror. I get down on my knees every morning and pray this will end. And God has answered my prayer's !!! I apologize for my prior outbursts and rants. God always takes care of our needs!!!

Many churches are pounding the fact that we are saved through grace, not works.. Whereby, discipline to the word is not required, grace over-rides sin and fornication is green lighted, or at least not frowned upon as it once was. Everything is okay when your saved by grace, obedience to the word becomes obsolete. No need to follow his example when we're saved by his grace, our deeds don't need to match what we profess.. Its okay to be a hypocrite, them silly rules don't matter. :devilish:
In the book of James it states that faith without works is a dead faith. Works in themselves do not save but are a manifestation of one's faith in the salvation that is provided by the shed blood of Jesus dying on the cross for the remission of sin and allowing the Holy Spirt to guide in the repentance process and how to live you life in a way that is acceptable to the Lord.

I really haven't met anyone that has been born again that believes that they are now allowed to kick back and idly watch the world go by. Discipline to the Word of God is absolutely required for those that love the Lord and humbly strive to serve Him.

I would advise anyone that attends the type of church that you have described to leave immediately.

Honor the word of God in word and in deed. Keep the fear of God before your eyes.

Psalm 119 says that a young man shall cleanse his ways by taking heed to the word of God.

Meditate on Gods word and the lusts of the flesh will not be able to sway you from Gods righteousness.

It would be nice if the church stopped treating sex like this horrible terrible thing that is a no-no to do. Sex is an amazing experience designed between a man and woman who have dedicated their lives to each other and God.

When you tell a bunch of hormone-driven teenagers to not do something and that it’s bad bad bad, and then all their friends at public school or college are boasting about their sexual exploits (both boys and girls do so), young people are eventually going to get numb to the fire and brimstone preaching. Why is it so bad when everyone else around me is saying how great it is?

But if the message that sex isn’t inherently some awful, sinful thing, but rather a beautiful consummation of God’s perfect design for marriage and absolutely worth waiting for, then maybe we’d have a better chance at convincing young people.

The other thing is, we need to stop acting like fornicating makes you some terrible, unforgivable person. Of course, we shouldn’t condone it, but often times fornication comes with its own set of punishments (STDs, unwanted pregnancies, etc). I don’t think the church needs to add onto that punishment, especially if the person truly is reprentant. Talk about a Christianity turn-off.

This is all coming from someone who had premarital sex and, looking back, genuinely wishes he hadn’t. But God’s mercy is enough. Just ask Rahab.

I can just imagine a preacher saying 'Sex is great kids. Have lots of sex.... but just wait until you are married." (Wink.)

Seriously though, I did hear a preacher say "Sex is fun" in church. He went on to explain that it was for a husband and wife. That's fine. I think some churches need to make a bit more room for life-long celibacy in their preaching, too.

That sounds a bit more like church in the '80's than it does church today, but I guess it depends on where you go. Paul singles fornication out and says that every other sin a man commits is without the body but he who commits fornication sins against his own body. Fornication is the only sin I can find in the Bible for which the Bible says God takes vengence on believers. But there needs to be balance. It can be forgiven.

I waited. So did my wife. From reading the Bible and from a series of youth group sermons that felt like they lasted a few years back when I was 12 or 13, I had the fear of God put in me about fornication. It did seem like a really big deal. But I also got some teaching on how it was a positive thing in marriage. It served me well. Fornication does need to seem like a big deal. One of the problems is that nowadays it is trivialized.

I always get resentful when people bring up Trump as the root of all evil!

Why? Because I am Canadian. This is an international forum. So drop it, ok!

But, I think there actually is a question involved when someone blames Trump. Not that he is the cause, but what has caused our society to go so far down hill, with regards to sexual immorality?

My one word guess would be Hollywood. And not just Hollywood, but all film, the media and the internet.

Some are you are much too young to remember, but on TV, in the 50's and 60's, bedrooms were rarely shown. And if they were, the married couple slept in matching twin beds. And other than a peck on the cheek, you never saw a kiss, forget about hand holding.

The morals were totally different! People were still evil in their hearts, without Christ, but there were great revivals in the 1950's, besides the fact that the Victorian era morals never quite died out. (In spite of the best efforts of some!)

Yes, people were still immoral, but the media didn't show it! I had no TV most of the 70's and 80's, so I never saw things take a tumble. By the 90's you could find swearing, and people walking off to a bedroom together to do?? Who knows, it was left to the imagination what unmarried people do in a bedroom.

Things went downhill. Satellite TV, Netflix have made it infinitely worse, as the Networks try to keep up with internet porn and what Netflix can get away with. Like full frontal nudity, simulated sex, that looks like real sex. And not just a glimpse!!

My fast forward button seems to get more and more use these days. Meanwhile some pathetic R ratings are supposed to stop your hormonal pre-teen from watching those sex scenes, usually between unmarried partners, and lasting forever.

How can we change Hollywood to present a moral view of sexuality? I don't think we can. Only God, and a big revival could do that.

How can the church help stem this horrific pandering to perversions? How great it is to see LBGTQ people treated normally, because we finally don't have to worry about precisely what we are talking about- Christian or Biblical values!

Of course, we need to raise our children to live God's truth and values. And getting rid of TVs or putting parental controls in TV and the internet might help! And our churches need to support homes, by teaching what the Bible says.

I am personally not optimistic about the future morality of the Western world. Of course, prayer and another great awakening could change that.

I appreciate the heart the OP has for this subject. But, I believe, like the fall of the perverse Roman Empire, our nations are crumbing from the weight of unholiness and ungodliness.

Pray for revival! That is the only help left!

I stayed with a relative who had cable, and one of the Disney channel shows for teens had a gay character. I don't watch much TV, but I saw a clip of something from TV on YouTube that had two men kissing. The show had a character say something about not being a d*&*^ (male anatomy part) about something. I was surprised they would use that word on TV. I turned the radio on and heard it on the radio.

I watched a commedian on TV a few years ago talking about porn scenes, and the whole audience seemed to be laughing like they knew what he was talking about. It's like all of them, women included, had been sitting around watching porn. When Sarah Palin was announced as a VP candidate pick, I heard a couple of people make comments about her looking like some character or stereotype of a school teacher in porn.

Doing something about media may be a good start.

You need to check what your colour is set to on your posts. I'm getting washed out white, although the quote came through just fine!

Back to the topic, I think I could give thousands of examples like this. It's like values have just broken down. If I wasn't so disabled, I would just cancel TV. As for porn, I cannot begin to understand what the attraction could be, especially for a woman! Some of the soft porn is about romance, because so many women feel unloved and lonely. (Not speaking for men!) just like the Harlequin Romances, years ago! (Another thing I could not bear to read!)

The devil trying to get his hooks into people, one way or another! And that means his hard work has paid off, if we don't take a stand for God, especially because his ways are best for our lives!
