How come women do not cover their heads in Church anymore?

When I was in India, I used to cover my head with a scarf in Church or basically at any gathering, where we took the Lord's name. This was practiced "mostly" by all women there. When I moved to the US, I didn't see women covering their's heads, doesn't matter which denomination Church I went to. At at some churches, I was looked down upon when I did cover my head. I have asked few pastors this question but no one was able to give me an answer that made sense. So help me out people. Thanks in advance. Blessings :)
 
I have seen it here (england) at a Gospel hall where the married ladies are expected to cover their heads... with a hat.
 
Some elderly women in my church used to wear hats all the time. But then they stopped coming to church due to health issues.

What Paul is teaching is not about head coverings. He said, one should teach with Christ in their heart, or over their head. Because its a shame not to Have Christ over you.

He gos into teaching about Men are not what angels are after.

The last thing Paul says is, a women should have Christ over her head, because of the angels that will be returning. It really has nothing to do with head coverings. Paul was using that custom as a teaching tool. to illustrate a point about something ells.

1 Corinthians 11:
10 For this cause ought the woman to have power(Christ ) on her head because of the angels( Jude 1:6; Rev.12:9 etc.).

So Paul's teachings are much more deeper then what is commonly taught .

So we aren't suppose to take those verses in it's literal meaning? Because I have always understood that head coverings for women are a sign of submission - if they are unmarried then to Christ and if they are married then to their husband.

I know that there is a lot of debate over this issue and for many reasons which I will not go into for most is speculation and guess work. I will say though that it is absolutely wrong for others to judge your freedom to wear a veil. Because they decide veil wearing is wrong they need not impose their conviction on you who is convicted it is perfectly fine.

It looks more like Paul was going through something with them that he had heard about them having contentions over these matters.

Because I feel very uncomfortable when I don't cover my head. Well thank God! the church that I attend now, is okay with it. I mean there are still those few "eyes" that always look at me like, is she crazy or what?! But I do feel convicted when I don't cover it.
 
Nathan Paul also says a woman SHOULD NOT TEACH. So you say as long as she covers her head it is ok to teach? Or is it just saying what it says.... The MAN is the head of the WIFE (woman) and HE should teach with his HEAD UNCOVERED (where is Jesus over this man now?) but the sife should AGKMOWLEDGE her husband's authority over her in this GODLY DEPARTMENT, and wear a hat to SHOW her obedience to her husband.

And if she WANTS to know something that transpired in church which she did not understand, SHE WILL ASK HER PREACHER, her husband is the preacher in her home, at home.

The husband is the HEAD of the wife, as Jesus is the head of the husband.... The order of ranking SET OUT by Jesus.... JESUS then HUSBAND (MAN) then WIFE(woman). And how do they show their respect for the oreder.... Jesus will always be faithful...The hsband will not pray or prophesy with a covered hat for JESUS' SAKE... and the wife will nt pray or prophecy with an uncovered head for her husband and Jesus' sake.


It is as plain and clear as that. NOTHING deeper to it. Just look at the results of the prayers if this is not maintained, and you will SEE this is part of why prayers are so UN-ANSWERED.... It is a SHAME.... Our prayers are a SHAME to GOD! God does not even hear them... WHY? ....John 9:31.... Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Let no one make you feel uncomfortable or judge you on the matter if you feel more content covering your head that is between you and Heavenly Father.

Who are any of us to tell you how to pray?

I don't think you should feel it a must because of 1 Corinthians 11 though for i believe it was dealing with people that were telling the women to cover their heads.

Paul never said a women should not teach.

1 Corinthians 11:5-34

King James Version (KJV)

5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth ( teach ) with her head uncovered ( without Christ ) dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. ( Shaven without Christ )

This is easier to see if you read the entire chapter. Otherwise its going to look like I'm just adding that. If you are familiar with more of Christ/God's teachings, you would see its just like I said here.

Paul just said here women teach God's word, and he did not speak out against that. Following the rest of the subject in that chapter, Paul is talking about the fallen angels . It has nothing to do with dress. Or having to do with denying women to teach God's word, because throughout God's word women taught God's word.

Women are allowed to teach. God had many women teachers throughout His word recorded. Building a whole teaching about women not teaching off of one verse, that is not taken in context with the rest of the Word of God, will not stand.

but as the word says again, the inner man or in this case woman, should be as per Proverbs 31.

I think Cobus was referring to this passage from 1 Timothy 2:
[SUP]9 [/SUP]In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
[SUP]10 [/SUP]But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

Yea I mean, outter appearance changes only when inside has changed :)
 
What tradition says is not important, what is done and not done is not important, being different in the church you go to isn't important. Following God, even in the little things like to cover or not cover our heads is importlant.

I am not sure what God wants, I can't make out the meaning of His instructions. So, I take the prettiest scarf I can find and slip it over my head. I'm considered eccentric. They say, Oh, is that a prayer scarf. I'd like so much to not be considered eccentric over this, but there it is! It could be God does not consider it necessary, but if God does, I prefer obeying God than men.

Yes . Lets put this in a little perspective. What did Paul have in his hand, before, he was struck down on the road to Damascus ? He had a letter with permission to destroy the church. Meaning to kill Christians. Men women, children, it didn't matter. Paul was part of that, so he knew well , what would happen to a women who was caught teaching Christ there and then .

I believe this teaching of Paul was taught for their protection. Not because it was forbidden by the law, it never was. I can give you many examples of women who God used, in the old testament even. So you have to not take things to the extreme as many do with this one verse, Without consulting the rest of God's words, and Paul's teachings.

If there was a man, who knew Not God's word, yet was in a teacher: would God want that ignorant man to teach?

If a Christian women, who Knew God's word , was told by men Not to teach, would God want her to teach? or should we prevent God's word for the sake of traditions of men ? Or should God's word prevail ?

Remember we are not bound by laws of ignorant men ,( Not Paul, but those that profess to understand Paul writings) but are set free in Christ.
