Just want to take a moment and introduce myself as a new member.

First, I am a 57 year old life long single (never married), whom quite frankly enjoys the freedom and independence to the single lifestyle. That said, I have been frequenting the Christian Singles Forum, and am looking forward to meeting people and making new friends.

Second, I came to the faith as a young person (age 15) in 1979 after reading the book "Late Great Planet Earth" by Hal Lindsey. By some miracle I have managed to remain in the faith the past 40+ years despite having gone through some incredibly hard and trying circumstances in life.

Third, I have worked at the 'corporate level' the past 30+ years. Started my career in Portland, Oregon in the late eighties prior to moving to Phoenix, Arizona, where I have resided since 2005. Yes, Portland is a beautiful town with a high quality of life but the weather can get old (it literally rains almost year around). As for Phoenix, you cannot beat 70 degrees outside in January!

Again, I am looking forward to meeting people and making new friends.

Great introduction, welcome to CC
You sound like a very busy man. We are surrounded by floods where I live. Turned to snow last night and now the sun is shining. Hooray!

There are quite a few life-long single members here so you should feel right at home. I just moved to Tennessee from Clearwater, Florida and, as for Phoenix, you cannot beat 70 degrees in January. I read the Late Great Planet Earth at the age of 15 too and have read quite a few Hal Linsey books since. I get the incredibly hard and trying circumstances in life as well because I am a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks. Even though I'm married the Singles Forum is my favorite as it is usually laid back and friendly. Glad to have you as part of our community. Looking forward to your posts. Welcome to CC.

Well, it is complicated. Do not want to go into too much detail, but the kindest thing to say would be that as a young person I went through some signification distractions in life that provided a set back in terms of the development of my social skills, to put it mildly. At an age when most young people were developing socially, I was 'bombed back to the stone age'.

Hence, I was 'on the sidelines' during my prime twenties and thirties dating years. I did not begin to grow into my social skills until well into middle age, and by that point had become pretty much set in my ways from a single standpoint. To be quite frank, I kind of enjoy being single. Or at the very least, consider myself someone who potentially can accomplish things in life single that I might not if otherwise married.

I am not the most attractive guy either, so do not naturally receive a great deal of attention from women to begin with. Then again, it is kind of my fault to begin with in that I do not make it a habit to go out and meet people. Lost track of the number of invites to single groups, church singles activities, etc I turned down as a young person and stayed home instead. I had gone through a great deal as a young person and needed a lot of space, privacy and time alone, particularly that still apply to this day.

I understand the importance of compassion in the life of a Christian but also believe it is a two way street: not just compassion for others but self compassion as well. In order words, it might not always be fair to look back and second guess decisions you made as a young person. Or as it states in Philippians 3:13: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead...

I'm packing my bags right now and I'm coming to your house for tea and Stovetop stuffin', brother Zacchaeus!

Luke 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

Seriously though, your life sounds like a carbon-copy of my own.
