saved by the bell? rumor has it that people were put in coffins with a means to ring a bell in case the impending burial was a bit precipitate. thus that particular expression.
Sometimes, it was a false alarm. Which is where the saying "he is a dead ringer" came from. (e.g. "He was a dead ringer" for Lynx).

Oh, this is a good idea actually. I know this has existed for a few centuries but never thought of it.

thank you, i love this stuff! idioms like raining cats and dogs, for goodness sake. what's that about? :D

@Moses_Young i like your ever-changing hats. They’re very cool.
Which one will you choose for your burial?
Thank you. I don't think I will really care which hat I will wear for my burial. Many of the most noble of the Christian martyrs were buried in ways that could never hope to beautify the damage they had endured in life. More important to me are the words of He who greets me in the next life. I hope to hear "Well done, good and faithful servant", although knowing I do not deserve such.

Well, when i was a kid i never knew that one day i would be planning my parents' funeral.
But today, i bought a lot for them at the city cemetery. I thank God for giving me strength in this process but you know what made me sad right now? Post number 32.
May God bless her soul.

It's gonna happen to everyone someday. When it happens to you, what do you want your friends and family to do?

Funeral?
Memorial service?
Irish wake?
Plant a tree in your name?
all christians alive at Rapture time will not die, we will be transformed!!! yeah, praise the Lord Jesus!!!!!!

Me, I want a good church dinner. Not a funeral with a dinner afterward, a dinner instead of the funeral.

Fried Chicken
Watermelon
Sweet tea
Pecan pie
Tater salad
Brownies

It's a lot harder to be gloomy at a dinner.

Don't worry about the price. I will have a separate fund set up to pay for it. I may have to occasionally add to it to compensate for inflation creep.

But I don't want a lot of people hanging around all gloomy when I go. Gloomy is not my thing.
If I am still around and kicking I will consider attending your dinner funeral. You omitted your home-made sour dough bread though. Hopefully, that will be addressed before you check out. Good menu, it will be well worth the trip.
