Hi. Long time Christian here.

Can't bring myself to go to church anymore. I just can't take any more of these moves to try to make Christianity more palatable to non-Christians. My son tells me the sspx traditional catholics are different and I need to give them a chance. Maybe I will. But I thought in the meantime maybe I'd sign up here to see what some other Christians are talking about.

We do a quasi Bible study at my house every other week. We just got done going through CS Lewis Screwtape Letters. Absolutely fantastic book if you haven't read it. I need to come up with a new series. It might be something along the lines of a study of some key Christian influencers in history.

I'm pretty big on the subject of Christendom. I'm down for liberating Constantinople if anyone else wants to join me! hahaha.

I'm also big on the subject of forgiveness. I think that God has completely forgiven all sin through Jesus sacrifice. I think our job is to trust in Him and learn to walk in the freedom that He's granted us.

Hello @surfer14, welcome to CChat. I'm glad that you found us, and thank you for telling us a little bit about yourself too

There are still churches out there that are not seeker-sensitive. Although they are harder to come by these days, I'm sure that the Lord will lead you to one if you ask Him to.

As for Lewis' The Screwtape Letters, that is a book that I am ~truly~ thankful for When I left my very sinful life 34 years ago to become a Christian, no one warned me about our common enemy and what I might be facing. The Screwtape Letters helped me understand how the enemy operates in our lives, which helps me recognize their attacks for what they are FAR more quickly

No. I don't believe that all will be saved. Forgiveness does not equal salvation.

The seeker friendly stuff is annoying. But it's more than that.

Anytime the church does things to make make "christianity" more appealing to non-Christians, then it's an indicator of the world influencing the church. That is a fail. Take whatever trendy issue the secular world is talking about that week... issue X. Well you can tell right away any church that's failing when they rush out with their messages saying "Yes! We agree with you! Issue X is of critical importance and we're on board! Join us!" Then they go through the Bible and pick out a bunch of verses that seem to fullfill a preordained conclusion that Christianity is down with issue X. We don't lead the world by following the world.

Instead what needs to happen is Christianity influencing the world. Evidence of that would be when atheists have to do crazy mental gymnastics for how their morality just so happens to look a lot like "treating others how you would like to be treated."

"Narrow is the path and few will find it." Stop trying to make Christianity all things to all people. Christianity is what it is. If people want it, they want it. And if they don't, they don't.

Welcome to CC, brother. Completely can understand and relate to your frustration with modern Churches. Many of us here consider Christianity to be more about relationship than religion. Knowing about Jesus is not enough.

I like CS Lewis too. I've read many of his writings. Such a transparent man, he was. Let us march onward to Zion together! Godspeed!
