I signed up here recently. My name is Brad, and I'm from the USA. I am 42. Last year I went to Vietnam for a month. It was my first time going to another country. Back in 2020 I met a significant lady on a dating site, but I wasn't able to go there to meet her because of covid lockdowns. I really enjoyed going there, and I will be going back this year with plans to marry her. When I was there I got a typical intestinal infection referred to as "traveler's diarrhea based off of eating the food there. They don't seem to have high standards when it comes to microbiological problems with food. Street vendors leave meat on carts without refrigeration and such. So while I was there my gf got me some honey and turmeric pellets called Viethoney, but I also have referred to her as my Viethoney.

I haven't been going to church, because I work late. I would have to get up too early and be miserable on Sunday mornings. I used to go to a dinner meeting on Thursday nights, but they haven't been happening lately. I can't find any good churches with a mid-week service now, except a big church has one only on the first Wednesday of the month. I used to worship at some churches and get into, but at new churches, I find everything too distracting. I've been playing guitar for 30 years and like studying music. All the music and instruments tend to be really distracting to me. I would say most modern worship songs are effeminate. It's all this repetitive emotional stuff set to simple music. So many churches have atrocious sound mixing. That big church I mention has it mixed to be singing and drums. There's this kind of vague haze of all the other instruments underneath that, but I have no idea what any of the players are playing. Overall it just sounds terrible.

Anyway, right now I'm seeking direction on whether I should stay in the USA or in Vietnam. I like some things about Vietnam better, but I think I need to be where the Lord wants me.

Your stomach response is typical for many Americans who visit Europe and may have stomach issues due to the differences in the biology of the land and food.
As far as moving to another country, especially Vietnam, i would say that there's a difference between being a tourist and visiting a place from living in a place.
I may even have a great time as a tourist in Iraq for example or Ukraine or Saudi Arabia. But living there? That's a different story.
USA is blessed with abundance and maybe you need to leave for a while to realize it.

Welcome, Brad! Don't know much about travelling. I am 56, have never travelled outside US, been on an airplane, or lived away from my parents old homestead for more than a year. Just me and my little Amelia now. She keeps track of the mice for me. I go to a Mennonite Church where there are no musical instruments. Just voice.

I was initially thinking of trying to get a fiance visa, but now I might be getting a spouse visa. The USA mostly rejects Vietnamese people who attempt to get tourism visas, because they have a history of not going back once they're here. It's kind of an absurdity that this policy is still in place when all you have to do is go to Mexico and walk in here. Then you get treated like royalty.

Vietnamese is a ridiculously difficult language and there aren't a lot of people who know a lot of English there. You put it 3 words in English, and translator will give you like 8 words back in Vietnamese. I think some of them are unnecessary such as with colors it's including a word that means color with the specific color's word.

Welcome, Brad! Don't know much about travelling. I am 56, have never travelled outside US, been on an airplane, or lived away from my parents old homestead for more than a year. Just me and my little Amelia now. She keeps track of the mice for me. I go to a Mennonite Church where there are no musical instruments. Just voice.

Thanks. I got to fly on planes when I was 8 and when I was 10. It was Louisiana to Florida and then Louisiana to California. The flights were 2-4 hours long. Going to Vietnam involved Louisiana to New York to Taiwan to Vietnam. The New York to Taiwan flight was over 15 hours. My back and knees were hurting after that much sitting. They had some thing where you could watch a selection of movies. I had not watched a movie in awhile, and I had a slight interest in 2 of them. They were both available.

The return trip was awful. After the 15 hour flight, I was in New York's JFK airport at 10:30 pm. My flight was at 8am. Trying to leave and go to a hotel would've been a lot of money and trouble for not a lot of benefit. I couldn't find a place to charge my phone in terminal 5 for awhile. Eventually, I found a working outlet by a sliding glass entrance door. All the other outlets I found weren't working. I found out I could walk to terminal 4, so I did. Terminal 4 was ridiculously inhospitable. There is literally not a single place to sit inside of there. There was a bench outside but it was a bit cold. I was setting on the edge of the baggage carousels at 3 in the morning. I found out there's no planes coming or going in the middle of the night. Other people were in a similar situation and had claimed the best spaces up against the walls. Eventually, I placed a neck pillow in a grocery bag on the ground and sat on it. I was leaning up against some check in desk in the middle of the check in area. I think I checked in and went through security at 6 in the morning, and everything was so much better on the other side. There were plenty of places to eat and tables and chairs.
