Hello @Pearshaped, finally, concerning the distance that you are sensing between the Lord and you right now, here are some of the things that help me stay closer to Him in my daily walk.
First off, carefully consider what this verse (which is a wonderful command with a wonderful promise from God attached to it) has to say.
Psalm 37
4 Delight yourself in the Lord*, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
The key to this verse is not found in chasing after the things that we think that we want from Him, rather, the key is found in always chasing after Him instead
He knows what we need before we do, and far better than we ever will, so focus solely on Him, on "delighting yourself in Him", and He will see that you have what you need and what your heart truly desires, too.
*(One quick word of caution, many have interpreted this verse incorrectly as, "Delight the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart", but that interpretation seeks to establish a kind of relationship, a quid pro quo, with Him that He simply will not abide, because it is useless, both to Him and, more importantly in this case, to us)
That said, the next question is, what are some practical ways to begin to go about doing this
Here again, the Bible has the answer for us in this little passage.
1 Thessalonians 5
16 Rejoice always;
17 pray without ceasing;
18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Some refer to this as "practicing the presence of God" in our daily lives (in fact, about 500 years ago, Brother Lawrance wrote a little book with that title). BTW, if you think about it, how beyond "cool" is it that the Creator and King of the Universe Himself wants us to not only include Him, but to make Him front and center in the moment by moment of our (seemingly insignificant) daily lives (which means that either our lives are not so insignificant to Him, and/or He knows how absolutely vital our growing relationship with Him is, for us).
If you'd like to give this idea a shot, the best way to begin is by remembering Him more and more often throughout your day. Then, whenever you do, think of or look around for something to rejoice in and thank Him for, like an amazing Bible verse, or your salvation, or all that He did and continues to do for you as His adopted daughter. Quite frankly, even the simplest of things will do too, like your warm home or bed or blanket/etc., anything that you feel you can rejoice in and thank Him for going forward from here. Eventually, you will even be able to rejoice in and thank Him for the stuff that you see as "bad" in your life, knowing that He is using everything in your life (even the things that you see as being "bad" in the moment) for your good .. e.g. Romans 8:28, 32/Hebrews 12:7-11.
That's it.
Praying for you!
Blessings to you in Christ!!

p.s. - I LOVE your BEAUTIFUL country (though I've only spent time in parts of it, like Geneva & Montreux, Zermatt, Interlaken and Fribourg (where my wife and I visited one of her college friends and her family). I've also found it interesting how many different languages are spoken in different regions of your country
