in my opinion from my studies on nutrition and related fields...

the ideal diet should be about 70-80% plant products...mainly fresh fruits and vegetables...and about 20-30% animal products...you should also drink lots of water...

the ideal diet should consist mostly of fresh foods...not processed or preserved...vegetables are best eaten raw instead of cooked...

in everything related to diet moderation is key...

the ideal diet should be seasonal...consisting mainly of foods produced in their natural growing season...

and last but not least in the ideal diet the food you eat should be received with thanksgiving and shared with the hungry...

I think if you shop on the edges of the grocery store, keeping away from those foods in the middle, it results in a balanced diet.

God created us and God created the foods for us to eat, they match. Everything man does to change the food interferes with how our bodies are made to digest food. With our population growth, we have to use preserving methods to feed us all, but each one damages the food. Real, unprocessed milk is illegal, oil refinery is unbelievable when God's way is to press, chickens never go near the ground, grains are made into sugary cornflakes, even.

On the edges of our groceries are the least processed foods.

Your plate (at least at lunch) should be filled the following way: 50% vegetables, 25% protein and 25% carbs.

If you're practicing a very demanding activity, like a sport, you should eat more carbs at breakfast, something like: 50% carbs, 30% vegetables and/or fruits and 20% proteins.

Each meal should have small portions of protein, carb, fruit, veggies and milk or any source of calcium. Your plate must have these 5 components every meal.

i've seen this guy on dr. oz a few times...but mainly paleo here...i don't see anything about legumes, though.
I thought beans were healthy protein, but paleo people never eat beans or grains of any kind. Just veggies, fats, and meat basically. I try to eat this way most of the time...except for the occasional gluten free bread or corn tortilla.
