then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose.
26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after: for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth; and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou and thine household. Deuteronomy 14:25-27

Take your family out to a very nice restaurant, order beef or lamb. Have a strong drink and praise the LORD together. Also note GOD used the word "Lust" Lust is not always evil. It's just a strong desire. Note the LORD says to have a "strong drink"

Deuteronomy 14

Tithes
22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. 23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice. 27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.

28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

yet, you would never hear a church say to use the tithe for having dinner with your family.

The assembly of God. The idea is that the assembly of God would all be together in one place doing this together. Notice also they were to travel to the temple from where ever they were living. The temple not being the point, but the body of believers the nation of the faith the gathering together of the chosen was/is an essential part of the tithe.
It is differentiated from a regular meal.

Did you read the verses? The family was to have a good meal and give thanks with the tithe.

yes I read the whole verse. What did I miss? Since when is the tithe used to buy the church more property? did you know the tithe was used to provide for those in need, the poor and needy....and I don't mean giving them bibles.

Imagine if the law was still going on today and China was God's people... there would be a super-communion of over a billion people crowding into the Temple of Heaven. That would be crazy!

Giving to the church is very different than giving to the needy.

For example, the church must decide whether to spend money to make their building and furnishings attractive to prosperous man or to use it for the needy.

There were different tithes: the festival tithe, tithing for the Levites to operate the temple, and tithes for the poor. The festival tithe wasn't just a party so people could indulge themselves. They turned their tithe into money but still traveled to the place God appointed. When they got there they bought livestock and other supplies. They offered sacrifices but didn't completely burn them; they then ate the meat and celebrated before the Lord. The celebration was to the Lord for blessing them.

Tithing is a lot more involved in the Old Testament than simply giving a tenth of your income. This is why tithing is completely incompatible with New Testament teaching.

Again I point out, the tithe was also used for the family to have a dinner before the LORD and give thanks. Part of tithe was to be spent on the family and those in need. You don't hear about that in the church today.

In the old testament, God communicated with man by using symbols that were carnal. God is spiritual and the kingdom of 'God is a spiritual kingdom. The OT laws regarding tithing reflected the truth of the Lord, there was spiritual love reflected in them. But those are as Moses taught, Christ brought all law into spiritual law. Tithing is no longer explained to us through hard and fast rules, but by spiritual rules that reflect love. The law has not changed, but the way it is given to us changed with Christ and that made a huge difference in the way we obey the law.
