Blogs are places for someone to write. Often times people will own blogs and use it to share about topics they find relevant. Or to teach others. Most will have a comment section for anyone interested.
Some people use them as diaries/journals that are made public.

It tends to be less about the writer interacting and conversation and more focused on the one individual and what they wrote. Similar to online news sites.

This site doesn't really have a blog setup, but rather calls a section of the forums 'blogs' and sets them a bit apart from the forums.

So on this site if you're looking to interact more with people utilize the forums as blogs tend to get overlooked much more often.

It is from weblog, shortened to blog. A log is a journal of sorts, right?

A search engine defined it like this:

Blog ~ a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an
individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.

I have found that the forum is not a good way to research and investigate the Bible. It is like having your desk outside in the wind and rain making it impossible to get anything done.

The blog is a way I can investigate while also allowing others to read, comment and critique. Not only so but if I find something that someone else has written or posted that I think is relevant I can share a link to the blog. In this way I find others who are also serious about researching a topic and can open the lines of communication that way as well.
